Vincent (over comm): "Now."

Thomson and his son approached Vargas, blending in with the other guests. Thomson's heart raced, the hunter in him alive, the father in him vigilant.

Thomson (to Vargas): "Enjoying the evening, Ms. Vargas?"

Vargas turned, her gaze cool and assessing. The music played on, a dramatic crescendo that mirrored the tension between them.

Vargas: "And you are?"

Thomson: "An admirer of your... financial acumen."

The dance began, not of feet but of wits. Vargas was sharp, her words probing, testing Thomson's cover.

Thomson's Son (to Vargas): "It's a rare thing to see you among the rabble."

Vargas: "I could say the same. I know every face in my circles, and yours... are new."

Thomson knew they were on borrowed time; the diversion wouldn't last.

Thomson: "Perhaps we could discuss business? Away from prying ears?"

Vargas considered, a serpent contemplating its prey. Then she nodded, gesturing for them to follow her to a private alcove.

Vargas: "Speak quickly. I am a woman in demand."

As they spoke, Thomson's son subtly scanned the room, his device hidden beneath the folds of his costume capturing data, information that would lead them to the heart of Vargas' operations.

Thomson: "Your financial talents are being wasted. We have a proposition for you."

Vargas listened, the gears in her mind turning. She was cautious, but the bait was tempting.

The episode ends with Thomson and his son leaving the ball, a tangible thread of success in their grasp. But as they disappeared into the night, Vargas' suspicious gaze followed, the game of cat and mouse far from over.
