Las consecuencias de nuestros actos [ESP/ENG]

En los últimos días, mucho se ha hablado y han sido varias las personalidades que se han pronunciado a favor del actor mexicano Pablo Lyle. El actor ha estado envuelto en un juicio desde 2019, luego de que en un acto violento golpeara a un hombre en medio de una riña por un posible accidente en una carretera. Todo hubiera pasado sin mucha atención mediática, sino fuera por el nefasto destino del sexagenario que falleció luego de golpearse el cráneo contra el concreto.

El hombre que, en el vídeo, confrontó a los pasajeros que iban en el carro, dónde se desplazaba el hoy prisionero, se ve reclamando instantes antes de la tragedia. La escena es, a decir verdad, muy lamentable. El actor se abalanza en contra del hombre, casi desprevenido. Lo golpea, lo deja en el suelo y sale huyendo en su carro, como cuál maleante. Y es aquí donde yo me pregunto, ¿cómo golpeas a un hombre mayor y lo dejas tirado en medio de la calle?, nada justifica las acciones de Pablo.

A simple vista es muy fácil juzgar, después de todo las peleas entre conductores son más frecuentes de lo que parece. Pero, cuando es una persona de poder o con algo de fama, el caso se vuelve a lo sumo interesante, ¿por qué?, por la sencilla razón de que al menos en nuestros países latinoamericanos tenemos la percepción de que los famosos son intocables y que siempre se salen con la suya.

El problema de esto, es que fue en Estados Unidos dónde sucedieron estos actos. Estoy seguro de que el castigo en uno de nuestros países, no estaría ni cercano a lo que terminó pasando en este caso: fue declarado culpable por homicidio involuntario y podría ser condenado a más de 15 años en la cárcel. Esto es una desgracia, para la vida, de una promesa de la industria del entretenimiento mexicano, que apenas tiene 35 años.

In recent days, much has been said and there have been several personalities who have spoken out in favor of Mexican actor Pablo Lyle. The actor has been involved in a lawsuit since 2019, after in a violent act he hit a man in the middle of a fight over a possible accident on a highway. It all would have passed without much media attention, if not for the grim fate of the sexagenarian who died after hitting his skull against the concrete.

The man who, in the video, confronted the passengers who were in the car where the prisoner was traveling, is seen complaining moments before the tragedy. The scene is, to tell the truth, very unfortunate. The actor rushes at the man, almost unprepared. He hits him, leaves him on the ground and flees in his car, like a thug. And this is where I ask myself, how do you hit an old man and leave him lying in the middle of the street, nothing justifies Pablo's actions.

At first glance it is very easy to judge, after all fights between drivers are more frequent than it seems. But, when it is a person of power or with some fame, the case becomes interesting at the most, why, for the simple reason that at least in our Latin American countries we have the perception that celebrities are untouchable and that they always get their way.

The problem with this is that it was in the United States where these acts took place. I am sure that the punishment in one of our countries would not even be close to what ended up happening in this case: he was found guilty of involuntary manslaughter and could be sentenced to more than 15 years in prison. This is a disgrace, for the life of a promising Mexican entertainment industry star, who is barely 35 years old.

Y a pesar de que, en un primer momento, quise juzgar de alguna manera el comportamiento deplorable del actor, me puse a pensar en cuántas veces yo mismo me he dejado llevar por la rabia y la impotencia en situaciones donde me creo amenazado. Me descubrí, humano y sin derecho alguno a juzgar a un semejante, que pagará por las consecuencias de sus actos. Siendo honestos, creo que la mayoría de seres humanos, sería incapaz de dañar a otra persona, intencionalmente.

Pero, a veces, la actitud o la manera en la que reaccionamos ante una agresión o conducta que creemos nos perjudica, puede traer consecuencias consigo. Estoy seguro de que este joven actor, si hubiera pensado bien las cosas, si no se hubiera tomado tan a pecho la pelea o problema circunstancial del momento, quizás hoy no estaríamos hablando de él, quizás su destino hubiera sido otro. Hubiera continuado haciendo telenovelas y haciendo suspirar a sus fans.

Eso parece no ser posible. Al menos no a corto plazo. En Estados Unidos, este tipo de casos traen consecuencias y los niveles de impunidad son bastante bajos. Lamentablemente, a veces esperamos a que ocurran este tipo de situaciones para tomar conciencia de nuestros actos. Por mucho que este actor, no haya querido matar a aquel pobre hombre, aquella nefasta tarde, tendrá que pagar por sus actos.

Yo, por mi parte, he aprendido que la violencia nunca es la respuesta, aunque parezca la más fácil. Tenemos que actuar con la cabeza fría y pensar muy bien la manera en como actuamos, si no en un ataque de ira, como en caso de este infortunado suceso, podemos echar por la borda nuestro futuro. Tristemente, es demasiado tarde para Pablo Lyle, pero al final tarde o temprano, la justicia siempre se encarga de hacernos pagar por nuestras faltas.

And although, at first, I wanted to judge in some way the deplorable behavior of the actor, I started to think about how many times I myself have let myself be carried away by rage and impotence in situations where I think I am threatened. I discovered myself, human and without any right to judge a fellow human being, who will pay for the consequences of his actions. To be honest, I believe that most human beings would be incapable of intentionally harming another person.

But, sometimes, the attitude or the way we react to an aggression or behavior that we believe harms us, can have consequences. I am sure that this young actor, if he had thought things through, if he had not taken the fight or circumstantial problem of the moment so much to heart, maybe we would not be talking about him today, maybe his destiny would have been different. He would have continued making soap operas and making his fans sigh.

That does not seem to be possible. At least not in the short term. In the United States, these types of cases bring consequences and impunity levels are quite low. Unfortunately, we sometimes wait for these types of situations to occur before we become aware of our actions. As much as this actor may not have wanted to kill that poor man that fateful afternoon, he will have to pay for his actions.

I, for one, have learned that violence is never the answer, even if it seems the easiest. We have to act with a cool head and think very carefully about how we act, otherwise in a fit of anger, as in the case of this unfortunate event, we can throw away our future. Sadly, it is too late for Pablo Lyle, but in the end, sooner or later, justice always takes care of making us pay for our faults.
