Bad Bunny: la desmitificación de la masculinidad [ESP/ENG]

Si me hubieran preguntado por el reggaetón hace unos años, seguramente mi respuesta hubiera sido negativa, pero, con el pasar de los años, la perspectiva acerca de mis gustos musicales ha cambiado bastante. Y eso que prácticamente crecí escuchando este género urbano, pero vamos a decir que era un gusto culposo y que en secreto disfrutaba de los éxitos que se escuchaban en las estaciones de radio.

Luego nació lo que se denomina “trap” un género más underground bastante emparentado con el rap. Quizás, sea más lógico describirlo como “trap latino” porque el trap como género nació en los años noventa, pero no es hasta mediados de la década de los 2010 que conoceríamos a exponentes latinos como Anuel y Bad Bunny, este último el más famoso de todos.

Bad Bunny es el gusto culposo que más disfruto. Lo conocí en pleno verano de 2017 cuando estreno un pegajoso tema con Karol G, otra famosa exponente urbana. Pero, para mí este tipo de música estaba estrechamente relacionada con el machismo y la misoginia, es por ello que me negaba a reproducirla o al menos hacerlo públicamente. Pero, todo esto cambiaria con la pandemia de Covid-19, cuando en pleno confinamiento Bad Bunny lanzó al mercado su segundo álbum de estudio titulado YHLQMDLG (yo hago lo que me da la gana).

En este álbum entendí que, aunque las letras de algunas canciones eran terribles, yo disfrutaba profundamente de lo que escuchaba y fue así, como el disco completo se convirtió en uno de mis favoritos de 2020. Prácticamente, salvó aquel fatídico y terrible año para mí, lo hizo y nos puso a cantar mientras estábamos encerrados, pero hubo algo, otro elemento que me comenzó a llamar mi atención: Bad Bunny estaba intentando romper esos estereotipos que lo definían como hombre heterosexual exponente del trap.

Sobre todo, después del video de “Yo perreo sola” un himno para aquellas mujeres que van a una discoteca sola. Lo que más me llamó la atención fue que se travistiera para este video y no es que nunca nadie lo hubiera hecho (de hecho, David Bowie ya lo hacía desde mucho antes) o que me comprara con ese hecho, es solo que comencé a ver en Bad Bunny un prototipo de la época en la cual estamos viviendo.

If you had asked me about reggaeton a few years ago, my answer would probably have been negative, but over the years, my perspective on my musical tastes has changed quite a bit. I practically grew up listening to this urban genre, but let's say it was a guilty pleasure and I secretly enjoyed the hits that were played on the radio stations.

Then was born what is called "trap" a more underground genre quite related to rap. Perhaps, it is more logical to describe it as "Latin trap" because trap as a genre was born in the nineties, but it is not until the mid-2010s that we would meet Latin exponents such as Anuel and Bad Bunny, the latter the most famous of all.

Bad Bunny is the guilty pleasure I enjoy the most. I met him in the middle of summer 2017 when he premiered a catchy track with Karol G, another famous urban exponent. But, for me this type of music was closely related to machismo and misogyny, which is why I refused to play it or at least do it publicly. But, all this would change with the Covid-19 pandemic, when in full confinement Bad Bunny released his second studio album titled YHLQMDLG (I do whatever I want).

In this album I understood that, although the lyrics of some of the songs were terrible, I deeply enjoyed what I was listening to and that was how the whole album became one of my favorites of 2020. Practically, it saved that fateful and terrible year for me, it did and made us sing along while we were locked up, but there was something, another element that started to catch my attention: Bad Bunny was trying to break those stereotypes that defined him as a heterosexual male exponent of trap.

Especially after the video of "Yo perreo sola", an anthem for those women who go to a disco alone. What caught my attention the most was that he dressed up for this video and it's not that no one had ever done it before (in fact, David Bowie did it long before) or that he bought me with that fact, it's just that I began to see in Bad Bunny a prototype of the era in which we are living.

Una época en la cual la percepción de lo que significa ser masculino o femenino ha cambiado para siempre. Aunque por el mismo video fue amado y criticado, por explotar al movimiento feminista, creo que fue un gran giro en su imagen, sobre todo teniendo en cuenta los temas que suele tocar este tipo de música: sexo, delitos, drogas y misoginia. La desmitificación de lo que se supone es lo masculino y lo femenino, a través de una de las grandes estrellas de nuestro tiempo, es algo grandioso, aunque muchos digan que se aproveche los temas de los que hoy conversamos.

Muchos ven a Bad Bunny como alguien que quiere colgarse de estos temas, no lo sé. Mercantilizar con la comunidad LGBTIQ+ o el movimiento feminista es muy criticado hoy en día. Este tipo de tópicos son muy álgidos, yo, prefiero pensar en que simplemente es un chico que creció con los cambios abruptos que estamos viviendo actualmente en materia sexual. Más siendo precursor de un género que exalta la heterosexualidad e híper sexualiza a la mujer.

Por ejemplo, hace poco, durante su presentación en la ceremonia de los MTV Video Music Awards, besó a uno de sus bailarines en medio del acto de su canción “Titi me preguntó”, lo hizo en una noche en la cual hizo historia al convertirse en el primer artista latino en ganar la categoría al mejor artista del año. “Un verano sin ti” su último álbum, debuto directamente en la primera posición del Billboard 200 chart, colando muchos de sus éxitos en el Billboard Hot 100.

Fácilmente, Bad Bunny es el artista latino más importante de los últimos tiempos, también es una representación bastante buena de lo que es ser joven en esta era: abierto, tolerante y dispuesto a hablar de los temas importantes, de las cosas que importan, de su sexualidad, de lo que ocurre en su país. Un hombre moderno ¿O quizás, alguien de género fluido?

These kinds of topics are very hot, me, I prefer to think that he's just a guy who grew up with the abrupt changes we are currently experiencing in sexual matters. More being a precursor of a genre that exalts heterosexuality and hyper sexualizes women.

His latest album, "Un verano sin ti," debuted straight to the top of the Billboard 200 chart, landing many of his hits on the Billboard Hot 100.

Easily the most important Latin artist of recent times, Bad Bunny is also a pretty good representation of what it is to be young in this era: open, tolerant and willing to talk about the important issues, the things that matter, his sexuality, what's going on in his country. A modern man, or perhaps, someone gender fluid?
