I was surprised to see this full sized Gorilla statue at the flower market yesterday and took it's photograph. I had no idea that it was even a 'thing' to have your own Gorilla in the garden but it appears to be a very popular choice.
This Gorilla statue is full size and it's just massive.
If you really want a Gorilla statue get one from a firm that tries to mitigate it's production impact on the environment like ArtResin Gorillaor better yet send a donation to help Dian Fossey's Gorilla Fund
The detail is spectacular and it is an impressive sculpture of an equally impressive creature. My my, how things have changed in how we decorate our gardens.
I posted a photograph of a statue of an Orangutan a few weeks ago and it was so life like many people thought it was a real animal.
The Orangutan statue
There is no denying that they are both beautiful statues of magnificent creatures and it's amazing that you can have one of these as a piece of garden adornment.
They are both made from resin which is not environmentally friendly but there are some companies that are trying to reduce their impact in their manufacturing processes. One such company is ArtResinthere still remains the matter of what to do with these statues once fashion changes and people want to dispose of them.
The use of plastics and petrochemical polymer based products is a hot news topic right now and has been for some time. The oceans are full of plastics that have already found there way into the human food chain
Will writing this post make any difference? Probably not. People will still want the latest fad no matter that the science tells them; how they are directly contributing to the plastic pollution problem.
Meanwhile the poor old plastic gnome is banished into the garden shed until it's binned and then into the ocean where it will float around for decades and end up on some former pristine beach or in the belly of a whale or seabird.
As for me? I'll take a #passonplastic wherever I can. We cannot rid the world of plastics but we can act more responsible with our purchases. This has been a post for #sublimesunday
Use the #passonplastic tag if you have a post that concerns the dire state of pollution we find ourselves in. Tweet it out there.
