Mussels full of plastics!

The Mussels around Britain have been found to contain micro-plastics. These are tiny microscopic pieces of plastic that the Mussels have ingested from the seas around Britain.
According to a report by BBC News source

"The scientists, from the University of Hull and Brunel University, said the contamination from microplastics and other human debris, such as cotton and rayon, was significant and widespread."

Wild Mussels were found to contain more of the microplastics than farmed Mussels.
Every sample that they tested including imported Mussels contained multiple forms of contaminants including cotton and rayon.

The source of the cotton and rayon fibres is thought to be from washing clothes in domestic washing machines!?

I ate these Mussels in white wine a few weeks ago. They looked great and tasted fabulous.

There is no evidence...yet; to say if Mussels will be dangerous for humans to eat but it does make one think?

I wonder what effect this news had on the share price of the 'less contaminated' farmed Mussels?
