Day 8
It really is fascinating to watch their sensorial development. Three days ago and there was barely any reaction to anything short of bumping the tank. Now they react to bright light by moving to the other side of the tank. They'll occasionally swim over to investigate when you approach the tank as well. Curious little fellows.
Still looking for the mesh top for my 20 gallon, hope I didn't throw it away. By the time they get to that tank, they'll be developed enough to be escape risks. African Clawed Frogs are well known for their uncanny ability to find a way out of the slightest of openings (and due to them being such strong swimmers, they can surprise you with their jumping abilities). I haven't had an escape in over 6 years and have no intention of breaking that streak.
Bought a turkey baster to use in the tank yesterday and I must say it makes cleaning significantly more effective! The tadpoles are much too small to risk using my gravel vac and the baster allows the bottom of the tank to be mostly cleaned by the end of the water change. Have to be careful with it though, if I drag it along the bottom of the tank directly, there's enough friction that it moves in jumps and starts.
