The Ferrari 250 GT SWB was presented during the Paris Salon in 1959 with a shorter wheelbase (2,400 mm) than that of its predecessor (250 GT Berlinetta Tour de France) and a new design. The model has also some upgrades like Dunlop disc brakes on all four wheels with tubular shock absorbers at the front.

Two types of model can be requested by clients :

  • lusso luxury model,
  • competizione with all aluminium coachwork and an upgraded engine for race specs.
On the race tracks, the 250 GT SWB won the Tour de France from 1960 to 1962, the RAC Tourist Trophy at Goodwood in 1960 and 1961.

This model (chassis 2163 GT) is one of the only 42 alloy-bodied examples built in 1960.
