The teacher had requested a photograph showing a CONTRAST of COMPLEMENTARY colors and another with HARMONY of complementary colors. So, before presenting my work to you, I would like to clarify what complementary colors would be, since it is ONE of the thousands of ways that we can make a color combination.

To understand what complementary colors would be, I need to tell you about the color wheel (IMAGE BELOW).

The colors inside the circle never change. In the center triangle are what we know as primary colors, attached to them are the secondary colors (results of the union of the primary tones) and further out are the primary, secondary and tertiary colors together (the latter are the results of the union between one primary and one secondary color).

Now, the complementary colors are the colors that are opposite each other on the circle, like blue and orange, fuchsia and yellowish green (light green), etc.

First I looked at home for everything that could possibly help me. I had saved 3 different colored cards (yellow, green and orange), which I immediately thought of using as a background. With the 3 base colors, I tried to put together all the objects I had in these colors and their complementary colors: yellow – lilac / green – red / orange – blue.

I thoroughly enjoyed my attempts… Using the card stock as a base really makes for an amazing highlight on products.

Well, I leave you with my result and I also take the opportunity to explain a little about the difference between CONTRAST and HARMONY of colors.

CONTRAST: When a color stands out against other colors that have the same intensity (saturation).

This one, in particular, was easier for me to do since anything, of the red tone, that I put on the base of the green and that both had the same intensity, would achieve the contrast.

HARMONY: When the colors are present in a balanced way, no color stands out. If one of them occupies a larger space than the others, it should be presented with less intensity (saturation).

This one was a big challenge for me, since the yellow base had maximum saturation (and took up most of the image). And what I had in lilac had low saturation and would take up a little space in the image. In this case, there would be, again, a contrast.

In the same way, I used the images that I achieved that day and made some edits in the Adobe Lightroom (https://lightroom.adobe.com/) app . For this, I took out a bit of the intensity of the yellow and intensified the lilac.

# >ARMONÍA: Cuándo los colores están presentes de forma equilibrada, ningún color se sobresale. Si uno de ellos ocupa un espacio mayor que los otros, este deberá presentarse con menor intensidad (saturación). >Este sí fue un gran desafío para mí, ya que la base amarilla poseía máxima saturación (y ocupaba la mayor parte de la imagen). Y lo que tenía en lila poseía baja saturación y ocuparía un pequeño espacio en la imagen.
