I believe none of us can say that this year and the last one have been incredibly hard and crazy, we've all been through very difficult times. Due to this, anxiety and depression rates are increasing and it's something really concerning. If you're going through this, I want to share with you what I know about a skill that is really helpful in these times. Despite this, **if you feel like you can't take it anymore, please ask for professional help**. As someone who suffers from chronic anxiety, I've found that **Mindulness** is a very powerful way of facing our own fears and feelings. Even if it sounds weird, whenever we feel that it's going to take us over, we should welcome our anxiety, make friends with it and try to listen what it has to tell us; *this will make us feel in control and will be more helpful than just rejecting and denying it.*

## How can we use mindfulness?
Here's an easy exercise that brings you back to the present, I'll take you step by step: * When you feel that your anxiety starts to arise, **become aware of your thoughts**. What is it that's going on in your mind? What are you worrying about? What triggered you into those thoughts? Why are you so concerned about that? * After this small talk, **congratulate yourself for being aware of what's going on**. This may sound dumb, but being able to listen to yourself is vital and when your thoughts start racing and burning, it's no simple task. * This is where you choose to respond in a different way. How? **Accept it and welcome it as a friend**, it's there to tell you something, so **smile and greet those thoughts with self-compassion and kindness**. This could be an idea: *'Here's my anxiety, thank you for protecting me and for letting me know this thing. What are you trying to tell me today?'* * This is the most important step: **anchor yourself to the present moment**. Here you should focus on your breath, inhale deeply as you feel the fresh air getting to your lungs and exhale all those raging feelings. You can close your eyes or empower your breathing by using your five senses, it also helps you to describe what you see, smell, taste, feel and hear. The more you practise it, the easier it becomes to know what works best for you. * **Keep breathing**. We aim to be centered and calmed, the more deeply you breathe, the quicker the storm will pass.

I've come to learn and enjoy mindfulness by practising it, it's such strong skill for us to remain present and to nourish our happiness. It's amazing how much everything can change by focusing our attention on what we're doing and by **being grateful**. I really hope this helps someone that's going through a rough time, I've been there and I know what you're feeling. There's no shame in admitting that you're being taken over by anxiety! Creo que no me equivoco si digo que todos tuvimos un periodo bastante difícil, entre este año y el anterior, pasamos por situaciones complejas y a las que no estábamos acostumbrados. Como consecuencia de ello, las tasas de personas con ansiedad y depresión han aumentado de forma preocupante y es algo que debería atenderse con urgencia. Si estás atravesando un momento difícil, quiero compartirte esta herramienta que me ha ayudado muchísimo. A pesar de eso, **si te sientes abrumado y no sabes como salir de ello, por favor pide ayuda profesional**. Como alguien que sufre de ansiedad crónica, descubrí que la técnica conocida como **Mindulness** es una herramienta muy poderosa para poder hacer frente a nuestros sentimientos y miedos. No sólo te permite pensar con mayor claridad, sino que también te permitirá sentirte más seguro y fuerte, así como también podrás desarrollar un mayor grado de compasión hacia tí mismo al estar enfocando tu atención en el momento presente. ![()](https://pymstatic.com/3314/conversions/mindfulness-filosofia-default.jpg)[Fuente](https://psicologiaymente.com/meditacion/que-es-mindfulness) La ansiedad es lo que nos permite comportarnos de forma cauta y cuidadosa, lo cual es beneficioso para nosotros, siempre y cuando podamos tenerlo bajo control. Incluso, por más que suene raro, cuando sentimos que nos está sobrepasando, deberíamos agradecerle a nuestra ansiedad, amigarnos con ella e intentar escuchar qué es lo que nos está queriendo decir; *esto hará que nos sintamos en control de la situación, lo cual es mucho más útil que negarlo y rechazarlo*.

## Cómo podemos utilizar esta técnica?
Aquí te comparto un ejercicio sencillo que permitirá que vuelvas al presente, te guiaré paso por paso: * Cuando sientas que tu ansiedad comienza a desbordarte, **hazte conciente de tus pensamientos**. Qué es lo que está pasando en tu mente? De qué te estás preocupando? Qué disparó todos esos pensamientos? Por qué estás tan preocupado por ello? * Luego de esta pequeña charla contigo mismo, **felicitate por hacerte cargo de lo que está pasando**. Puede que esto suene muy tonto, pero permitirte escucharte es vital para el momento en el que tus pensamientos empiezan a quemar. * Aquí es cuando eliges responder una forma diferente. Cómo? **Acepta la situación actual y dale la bienvenida como si se tratara de un amigo**, está allí para decirte algo, así que **sonríe y dale la bienvenida a esos pensamientos con amabilidad y compasión**. Esta podría ser una idea: *Aquí está mi ansiedad, gracias por protejerme y hacerme saber esto. Qué estás intentando decirme hoy?* * Este es el paso más importante: **mantente en el momento presente**. Aquí deberías hacer foco en tu respiración, inhala lo más profundo que puedas y siente cómo el aire fresco llega a tus pulmones; exhala todos esos pensamientos punzantes. Puedes cerrar tus ojos o utilizar tus sentidos, también es buena idea describir lo que estás viendo, sintiendo, degustando, oliendo y escuchando. Cuanto más lo pongas en práctica, más sencillo te será saber qué es lo que funciona mejor para vos. * **Sigue respirando**. Con esto, apuntamos a estar centrados y calmos, cuanto más profundo respires, más rápido pasará la tormenta.

Con la práctica, a mi me parece una herramienta realmente útil, es muy poderosa para anclarnos al presente y nutrir nuestra propia felicidad. Es increíble lo mucho que todo puede cambiar una vez que hacemos foco en lo que estamos haciendo y en ser agradecidos.
