Introduction
Esteem is one of the oldest interface for the Steem blockchain. It has been around for quite some time. It is a great product and, in many ways, unique. It is not a web-based solution but a standalone app. It is smooth and nice to look at with a lot of extra features. There is an app for Windows and iOS and for mobile, Google play and App store. Updates have been rolling out on regular basis. The creator of the app is @good-karma. Many thanks to him.

Scope of Analysis
In this analysis, daily data will be presented for activities in the eSteem app. Data on posts and comments made with the app, votes from the app and top authors will be presented.
The analysis was carried out for the period from 01.01.2018 to 28.02.2019. This is a long period, but I wanted to present the overall picture. Data from the STEEM blockchain was used and details of the queries can be found at the bottom of this post.
Activity on eSteem
Activity on the platform is in posts and comments. eSteem have their own interface. All the posts and comments made on the eSteem app are ending on the Steem blockchain.
Posts and comments can be made with the app, but also from the other Steem interfaces like Steemit, Partiko, Busy etc. Because of this I have approached the data activities in two different ways. The firs is showing all the post and comments with the esteem tag, and the second is for the posts and comment made only with the esteem.app.
Here is the data for the period analysed. Data for each day was collected and presented on this graph.

As already mentioned here is the data collected with the two different methods. The light line is the number of activities that contains the esteem tag, and the dark line are the acuities made only with the esteem app. As activities here are included posts and comments.
As expected, the overall data containing the esteem tag have more activities that the posts and comments made only with the eSteem app.
The total number of posts and comments that contains the esteem tag for the period analysed is 2.581.744, out of which 2.234.496 posted with the eSteem app.
This is a difference in around 15%. Since this is an analysis about the @esteemapp, in the next charts only the data from the esteem app will be presented and analysed.
What does the overall activities number on the eSteem app tells?
Well we can a massive activity in the start of 2018. This heavily correlates with the price movements. As the prices fall in the crypto industry and the price of STEEM, so does the activities. A continuous fall all around 2018. At one point there is more than 20k posts and comments in a single day. There is a big drop around the Hardfork. After the HF20 the activities seems to stabilized around 2000 per day, and just in the last month we can see a small increase in activities.
Posts on eSteem
As mentioned, activities on the platform are in terms of post and comments. Below is a graph on posts on eSteem.

The upper line are the posts that contains the esteem tag, and the below line represents the number of posts made with the with the esteem app.
The total number of posts that contains the esteem tag for the period analysed is 1.277.998, out of which 1.112.905 posted with the eSteem app.
As for the overall activities, here as well we can see the same trend. A huge number of posts in the beginning of 2018 reaching more then 10k per day, and then slowly declining. A stabilization towards the end of the year with a post number between 500 to 700 hundred per day. A small increase in the last month.
Comments on eSteem
Below is the graph on comments on eSteem.

The total number of posts and comments on eSteem for the period analysed is 1.277.998, out of which 1.112.905 posted with the eSteem app.
The number of comments follow the overall trend. A huge number of comments in the beginning of 2018 reaching around 10k per day, and then slowly declining. A stabilization towards the end of the year with a comment number between 800 to 1000 hundred per day. A small increase in the last month.
eSteem Votes
eSteem reward its users with votes when they use the app. The criteria to get a vote is not entirely clear, at least to me. But it looks like they award the more loyal users. If somebody knows something more about this, please inform me.
Here is how the voting looks for the period analyzed.

The total number of votes casted from eSteem for the period analysed was 252.062.
This is a huge number of votes and support given to the community by eSteem. Great job from them. The @esteemapp have more than half a million SP. With the SP that holds it awards its users with votes.
As we can notice from the chart there is a big oscillation in the voting pattern in the first half of 2018. The number of daily votes reaching almost 4k per day. On other days this number is 0.
Starting from June 2018 the number of daily votes stabilize it self in the range between 200 to 300 daily votes. Having in mind that the number of users continued to drop in this period eSteem continued to support the same number of people.
Below is a chart with the eSteem vote weight.

As expected from the number of votes chart, here we can notice that in the first half of 2018 the weight of the vote was quite low, since there was a lot of votes in that period. Later the vote weight stabilized in the range between 4% and 6%
Number of Monthly Users Voted
Below is a chart with the number of monthly users that received vote from eSteem.

A Total of 21.383 authors received a vote from eSteem in the period analyzed!
This is a huge number of users supported by eSteem.
The trends follows the overall trend with most users voted in the beginning of 2018. Later this number stabilizes in the range between 1000 and 1500 monthly users supported. This is still a great support to the community.
Number of Unique Users
Below is a chart with the number of unique users that posted with eSteem in the period analyzed.

A total of 54.706 users have used the app in the period analyzed!
This is impressive. More than 50k users.
The chart represent the number of unique users, not a daily or monthly active ones. We can see that new users continued to arrive to the platform in all of the 2018.
The biggest growth is in the beginning of 2018, and after that slowly decelerate. Still more than 6000 new users have used the app in the second half of 2018.
Posts and Voting Correlation
Here is a correlation between the number of posts and votes per authors. Is there correlation between the two? Does authors who post the most with the app receive the most of votes?
Here is a scatter chart on this.

As we can see the chart do show some correlation between the number of posts and votes per author. Especialy in the lower numbers. As the number of posts increase this correlation gets lost.

Conclusion
As said in the beginning, eSteem is an app with one of the longest legacy on the Steem blockchain. It is a great app to use and a unique one. If Steemit is gone tomorrow, eSteem will continue its journey. Having option on this blockchain is a great thing.
More then a million posts have been made with the app in the period analyzed. More than a million comments as well. A total of 54k users posted with the app and more than 21k users received a vote from eSteem. A total of 252k votes were casted by the app. These are numbers that deserve respect!
Wish this project a successful future.
