We don't tend to travel when it's peak season, but we had family who were visiting last minute, and I found some amazing holiday deals, so off we went with family to Prague for a few nights of European Food, Culture and History.
We love travelling when we can, as homeschoolers/unschoolers, we know how enriching and eye opening travelling can be. We've never been to Prague before, but have heard how beautiful the city is, and we really weren't disappointed!
Travelling is one of our top picks for fun learning. Taking an airplane can be such an enjoyable and educational experience for us! Going through immigration and the security checks can be long winded, but the kids learn a lot from the process. Checking out the cockpit (if we get to) and meeting the pilots is always such an awesome experience, as it was for this trip :)
Sitting at a window seat, watching the plane lift off/land, looking at the clouds and the view from up high are our some of our top favourite things.
Prague was so full of culture and History, it was amazing walking down the streets and finding the most beautiful architecture at every corner.
This was taken at the Old Town Square, with St Nicholas Cathedral in the background
It was very unfortunate though that the Astronomical clock at the Old Town Square was under renovation. Will just have to head back to Prague again at some point I guess ;)
This was taken on Prague Castle Grounds, with the absolutely gorgeous St Vitus Cathedral in the background
The architecture is amazing, and it was as beautiful inside as it was out.
Inside St Vitus Cathedral, so much history to soak in
The beautiful stained glass in the cathedral
We didn't tour the place of burials inside, but had a peek from outside
The girls have quite an interest in Astronomy, so we took the chance to check out Stefanik's Observatory, where we checked out their satellite and meteorite collection and the telescope they had there.
A quick trip up Petrin Tower (Prague's miniature Eiffel Tower) to spot the sites we'd visited
Our trip wouldn't be complete without a Pedalo ride on Prague River!
This street act blew the girls' minds, and I loved it because it was a nice little science lesson to figure out how it worked :)
On our last day there, we managed to take a quick but very insightful visit to the Jewish Quarter and check out this most beautiful Synagogue - The Spanish Synagogue
The sacred geometry within the patterns and designs were breathtaking
We learnt so much and had so much fun during this short trip to Prague, it is one of our dreams to be a worldschooling family, so we embrace every little taste of the world we can get.
The girls always enjoy practising a new language, trying new foods, and experiencing a different culture. Prague is definitely a great pick as a safe family destination and for a maximum Culture and History experience.
Looking forward to our next impromptu learning adventure already :)
Hope you've all been having the best summer! Let me know what other Cultural European Countries we should visit next time ;)
Thanks for reading!
Much Love from Red
