Souq Waqif is one of the must-see and visit places in Doha. It is one of the largest marketplace selling local goods, arts & craft, gold jewellery and more. This market has been around for hundreds of years but over the years, many renovations have been made and turned the market to a more modern area but still preserving the original style of the marketplace. It is most popular during the night time as not many people are out by day due to the heat in Doha.
Once we arrived, everything was lit up. There were crowds everywhere with tourists and locals out and about enjoying the cool evening weather. On either side of the markets, there are stores selling local craft to drinks and food. As you walk inside the buildings, there are many alleys with different stores selling various items. They are usually grouped together making visitors easier to find what they need.
We ventured around the alleys and found some interesting store in particular the gold stores. I had a look at some and the gold was sooooo light, like a piece of paper. The design was very good and stylist which I thought was pretty amazing. A small ring for example would have cost around $150-200AUD.
We ended up having dinner at Parisa which I have shared before on here as we had read some reasonable reviews and the entrance of the restaurant already won brownie points. It is recommended that you visit during the evening when all the action is happening with less heat. Also, the prices of things may be a bit more expensive than some others outside of the markets as this is a tourist area.
