«Pino Gordo» (3 pics)

On the way to the mountain village of Vilaflor, there is one of the most interesting trees in Tenerife – the Canary pine named Pino Gordo, which translates as «fat pine» from Spanish.

Canary pines are unique trees. They are drought resistant, with very strong and fireproof wood and easily take root on volcanic soil. Moreover, the Canary pine is an endemic, growing on several islands of the Canary archipelago.

The usual height of Canary pines is 35 meters, but Pino Gordo is an exception. It is the tallest Canary pine in the world with a height of more than 60 meters and a thickness at the base of 3 meters.

One of the most favorite entertainment of tourists you see in the last photo.
