Hi Everyone,
The first proper meal I had in Tokyo was soba noodles. I was craving for it so much before so when I saw a restaurant at one of the shopping centres we were in, we quickly went inside. Soba noodles can come in cold or hot so it suited what my mum and I want as we both wanted something different.
Let’s have a look at the menu first. There are a number of choices of sets with the option of hot or cold. As this is a more old school restaurant, there wasn’t any extensive English menu, just a simple few words on a few dishes. We picked the 2090 yen set that came with the beer and the cold tempura soba and udon combo set.
Here comes the food! As expected, the sets came out nicely presented. I had the tempura set which consists of a variety of vegetables with a prawn and two types of noodles - soba and udon. The set my mum ordered had an oden, hot soba and the main dish of meat and fish cake (if I read it correctly). She was given a choice of sake or beer and she chose the beer which was perfect for her set.
The food was delicious and have to say mine was very filling with two types of noodles. The tempura was fresh and came out smelling so yummy. It was nice but not exceptional. My mum’s set was a great deal! The oden was delicious and the soba was just right. Including the beer with the meal, it was just like a perfect match. The restaurant didn’t have any English speaking staff so be prepared to use a bit of google translate or ask for things in simple Japanese if you are a tourist. The table was nicely spaced and it wasn’t too overcrowded with was nice. Having soba as our first meal in Japan was a great choice.
