Scientific innovations for human problems. Introduction

There are no Negro problems, or Polish problems, or Jewish problems, or Greek problems, or women's problems. They are human problems

In this series of posts I’d like to discuss some scientific innovations which could help people to solve some of their problems (energy supply, food/fresh water scarcity, safety…).

I’ve been contributing to SteemHunt for some time (not to compete with people, but rather because that was very interesting to find some innovations and share them with people). Sometimes there were quite interesting questions in response, which was motivating (to see that your posts aren’t going on Steemit to a “Black Hole”).
Anyway, SteemHunt has its own limitations (when I was a hunter there we needed to somehow describe the product in 1000 characters (correct, not words)). And it was extremely hard to describe the innovation in such limited amount of sentences (which usually were 5-6). Also your products needed to have a prototype...

In this series of posts I do not care about prototypes, characters limitations, whether or not the innovation is industrial, non-industrial, whatever…

What I care here is that I’d like to figure out how those scientific innovations work, and share that information with people.

At the beginning of this series I’d like to talk about those same innovations I’ve already presented on SteemHunt with completely different text and approach to provide information and much deeper review.

I can't guarantee that I myself will be able to understand the principles of how those innovations work (just because scientists behind them quite often hide the "know-how" component). Anyway, that's what I'd like to try in this series of posts.

Do not expect reviews as you can find in journals like “Nature” sometimes (I’m an amateur scientist).

And if you see mistakes in my posts or see a way to somehow improve them, feel free to provide your suggestions/feedback in the comments section.

It would be great also, if you could provide some thoughts on how scientists could improve their innovations.
Remember?

The Truth is Born in Argument
[presumably Socrates]

In this series of posts you can expect reviews of innovations in the field of
--> alternative sources of energy,
--> wastewater treatment,
--> alternative sources of light,
--> IoT (Internet of things),
--> food/fresh water supply,
--> wildfire detection systems
--> and more

Especially I'd like to pay attention to nature-/biomimicry-inspired solutions for human problems
(for more info on this go to --> https://asknature.org/ ("Inspired Ideas" section) and https://biomimicry.org/)

Also I thought a lot about so-called “Fair use”. I had doubts on whether or not we can use screenshots of YouTube videos, screenshots of web-sites, YouTube videos themselves in our posts on Steemit with educational/review purposes when it comes to profits/money (and as you know Steemit (or other interfaces) gives you a chance to be rewarded with $). But after talking to one lawyer I have no doubts anymore:

In cases where the material is used for education or for review, and does not compete with the original product, you are on safe ground - even if you are making money on it.

Even though I’m not from USA (and “Fair use” is the name used in that country), similar doctrines are used in other countries.
So, do not be surprised to see in my posts screenshots, YouTube videos…

And remember

We have the brains, the know-how, the technology and the feasibility to build an entirely new civilization
Jacque Fresco on "Larry King" Live Full (1974)

Taking into account what’s happening on the Earth (with all the wars), I believe we still (in 2019) live in quite stupid one.

According to Fresco, human behaviour is defined by environment. Environment can be changed with the help of technologies/innovations. Hence, we might hope that by changing environment we will be able to change that strange and dangerous behaviour (like wars) for something better.
