In a gathering of over 300 Nigerian youths could you believe not even one knew about steemit?
It was a bright day here in Abuja Nigeria, @xpency and I had planned to go out there to educate Nigerian Youth Corpers on steemit and how the steem blockchain works all in support of the #project20millionnaija movement where the target is to bring 20 million Nigerian youths into steemit.
Why Do We Promote Steemit
It is saddening to have all the potentials to live a better life yet missed it due to lack of information.
I got introduced into steemit last year after spending more than 4 years of my life asking the same question; How best can I make money online?
In the quest to making money online, I was previously introduced to some shitty programs and Ponzi schemes; I lost my investment to most of these programs.
It wasn't My fault "kind of", all these shitty programs are package as apple pie and sold to us.
This is why I and @xpency took it upon ourselves to go out there using our experience to educate the youths on what the steem blockchain is all about and how best they can make money online using steemit.
Introducing The Steem Blockchain
Do you know over 60% of Nigerian youths believe Bitcoin is the only legit cryptocurrency and others are pure scams?
Thanks to the orientation we gave to them, now they know better.
We were shocked when we discovered that most if not all of them thought Bitcoin is the only legit cryptocurrency, because of this myth we had to fully orientate them on the following:
- What is a Cryptocurrency
- What is a Blockchain
- Why do we need a Decentralised System
- What is the Steem Blockchain
- How Steemit is built on the Steem Blockchain
- How they can earn on Steemit by creating contents
- How and Why to invest in Steem
How we Shocked them with the Power of Steemit
After the enlightenment and sharing of our personal experience on how steemit has changed our lives, some of them still doubted the reality of the system.
They were however relieved when we made them understand that they do not have to pay any money to register on this platform. It is absolutely free

How we used Steemit to solve their needs Instantly
Some of the youths chanted that they had no internet data on their phone; buying internet data bundles is quite challenging for some Nigerian youths because of the cost [ take for example a 1.5-gigabyte internet bundle cost N1,000 (in a country were some youths earn N10,000 to N15,000 as monthly salary)].
Noticing the grumbles about the lack internet data, we chose seven people randomly and gifted them with N1,000 data subscription each.

Successes Recorded
- After the Program, we were able to open their eyes to lots of opportunities lying ahead.
- We got scores of people who penned down their name for more tutoring
- Almost all departed from the venue reciting the words; Steemit and The Steem Blockchain
- Seeing the excitement on their faces, we got invited by another CDS group leader to come share this valuable piece of information (Steemit) to his CDS group on Monday 22nd January 2019.

Challenges Recorded
- We would have loved to empower more of them with the data subscription but due to limited fund with us, we couldn't do more.
I @jacobite and @xpency, However, shared hotspot with those who didn't get the N1,000 (this act helped some of them to get registered there and then) - Some complained about the fact that the approval is not instant, they were already excited about getting started and posting their contents.
