I'm a newbie at taking photographs. There have been many many times when I saw something that looked very beautiful, but any photo I tried to take of it was washed out and not beautiful at all. So, I never took photographs.
I've been forced to start taking photos for Steem, because I've been told every post must have an image, and picking one from the internet just doesn't do it for me.
Last Monday I was at my local mall with a friend. I had come across the Boulder Sunday challenge just that day, and wondered who on earth would want to take shots of boulders? But there I was in a restaurant in a mall, and the place had room dividers of beautiful large stones in cages, and I was suddenly overcome with an urge to take shots of boulders. I took this one first:
Washed out and disappointing as usual! But the blue stripe is cool.
My friend, who is a photographer, told me to turn off the flash. I said, and I'm not kidding here, "I don't know how to do that." So she showed me, and my next shot was this one:
Eureka! Lovely shadows and colors of the lovely boulders! A nifty red patch too!
Then I took this one by getting a bit closer and tilting a tad:
Meh.
The first image in this post was my final shot, and I like that one quite a bit.
The moral of this story is: Taking shots of boulders is a great way to learn about photography.
Turning off the flash has transformed my life! Now I can't stop taking pictures. It's become an obsession.
This is my entry for @shasta's Boulder Sunday challenge @shasta/boulder-sunday-number-38
