A little trashy

Is it just me or am I the only one that doesn't care too much about the UI issues on Steem? Sure, they aren't ideal but they aren't the end of the world either.

Today I sat in a presentation with the head of strategy for the company I work for, someonr who has been instrumental in actually moving the direction. It was funny to hear him talk about things that would very, very neatly apply to Steem - but know that it would be impossible to implement.

Some things are only possible with centralised governance, at least at this point. While the benefits of decentralisation are large, most people are not equipped to actually live the decentralised life and unwilling to really cooperate, even if there is a common goal. While a centralised organisation can justify costs and losses, individuals are much less willing to wear those costs, however slight they may be. Perceived loss is always going to come up against resistance, even if the loss is not actually a loss at all.

It is going to be interesting to see if the worker proposal system @blocktrades has put forward gets funded from the pool, how people will react to a reduction in rewards. Will they see it as a loss of revenue or, an investment into the future of the Steem Blockchain? Maybe it depends on whether someone is here to earn to sell or, earn to stake themselves.

What I like about the term 'stake' is that while some people think about it as placing a bet, it is actually staking out a plot of land, digital Steem real estate. Most people dream of buying land and building their dream house, this is how I think of Steem, a property that I am able to own and operate in the way I choose.

Of course, there is no way one can actually truly be independent on Steem as there are many, many points that are only possible because of the community as a whole and, the roles of members within. There are always overlaps, even if you canuse your property as you choose.

Steem is getting more interesting though of late as some people are starting to work out that in order for Steem to be successful, it is going to take a coordinated effort, time and likely a bit of cost. Luckily, not many people have to pay a direct cost and those who earn from the pool are still able.

While decentralisation is superior in many ways, it is always going to face the challenge that it requires cooperation at the fundamental levels, and we have come from a world that has been pushing individualism heavily for the last 50 odd years. Old habits die hard as they say and, this is just the beginning of those habits showing their age and weaknesses. While everyone wants the benefits of change, very few want to actually change, let alone pay the costs of change.

Hey to pay for a gym membership they barely use, go to the hairdresser every 6 weeks or a subscription to Netflix but, paying for actual improvement? That is the responsibility of others.

Many talk trash - and then wonder why they live in filth.
