We recently went to Coventry for a night away. I'd heard of Coventry before, but have never been. It's more of a University Town, and although it's not the prettiest English town, there are a few spots worth checking out.
I've mentioned in a previous post that travelling is one of our favourite ways of fun learning. As unschoolers, I can never resist looking for spots with the most educational value when we visit a new place.
Coventry Cathedral is pretty grand. It has a very old painting - The Last Judgement- as you walk in and look up (you can just about see it in the pic above), which was cool to see in person. Having just been to Prague and visiting the beautiful but extremely busy cathedrals there, it was very refreshing to come to Coventry Cathedral and have the whole place to ourselves, and be able to explore it as we pleased. And all for free!
The Stewart at the Coventry Cathedral was also extremely welcoming and informative, which was very different to our experience of the stewards at the Prague Cathedrals, who all sadly seemed to be tired of tourists.
We also went to Coventry Transport Museum, which I have to say was a gem of a museum. Totally free to visit, and had lots of interesting exhibits, including the time line of bicycles and automobiles, from the early days to future concept cars. There were also lots of educational and interactive exhibits, that were very entertaining for the little ones.

There is so much to explore in England and in the UK, going to Prague and seeing all the beautiful cathedrals there has definitely inspired us to check out the beautiful cathedrals we have here in the UK. Another excuse for us to travel ;)
