After a day of cycling through the hills of western Cuba’s tobacco country, we ended up in this city (name forgotten, but somewhere between Havana and Pinar del Rio).
At dinner, our tour guide heard that the local baseball team had a home game, and he asked us if we wanted to go and watch it. We all did.

Simply pro, simply skilled
The stadium is large but not massive. The athletes are professional, and their skill-level is high. Nevertheless, the atmosphere is very different from that of a major league game in the US.
Nothing fancy, just thrilling

There were no brash announcements, no music to pump up the crowd, no flashing lights, no advertising, and no high-tech video scoreboard to distract us from the pleasant dynamics of the game.
Just some guys on a field, playing a game of ball, cheered on by a few thousand fans. As WP Kinsella said, just “the thrill of the grass.”

This is my entry in @juliank’s Sports Photography contest.
