Canadian scientists made an extraordinary discovery. They have succeeded in developing a method for changing the blood type - so far they have been able to transform type A into the most universal one - 0. The procedure was possible thanks to abilities of intestinal bacteria.
An extraordinary discovery of Canadian scientists!
Canadian scientists have invented the method of changing the blood type. At this point, they are able to turn type A into type 0, and intestinal bacteria have been found to be essential.
Change of blood type possible?
0 is a specific blood type. If necessary, a blood type 0 donor may be a donor to persons with any other blood type.
Because of its versatility, Type 0 is called Type 0, Gold,' Type 0 is the most valuable type in blood banks. Its holders are the most demanded by blood donation centers.

0, A, B - what is it all about?
The Canadians have found a way to change blood type A in 0. How? To understand this, it is important to first recall what blood types are all about and what it actually means.

The plasma contains antibodies directed against the antigen in the blood. Our immune system can treat blood of a "foreign" type as a threat to the body.
Entero-intestinal bacteria and blood incompatibility
Based on this knowledge, Canadians have developed a method that consists in removing A antigens from the surface of red blood cells, so that the immune system "recognizes" type A as antigen-free type 0. The idea of changing the blood type is not new, but only specialists from the University of British Columbia have managed to find a suitably effective tool - enzymes produced by intestinal bacteria.
Canadian scientists have invented a method that consists in removing antigens A from the red blood cells. Thanks to this procedure, our immune system treats type A as type 0 (implicitly devoid of antigens).
A detailed analysis of this process is not yet known. Scientists presented their method at the American Chemical society’s conference in Boston.

Of course, many more clinical trials will be needed to make sure that our way has no side effects. However, everything looks very promising and we are full of optimism - comments one of the co-discoverers of the method, Professor Stephen Withers.
Canadian scientists state that clinical trials are about to start. At the moment it is not known whether their method is effective in converting other blood types than A into blood type 0. The tests are still ongoing.
