BEASTLY TALES

OTTO ON THE THRONE

Otto Clipzinger was not a pretentious type,
Should you fail to say he looked good, he wouldn’t gripe.
Of course, he never expected such, it should be understood.
Because, at no time in history, had he ever looked good!
Unassuming as he was, by nature, prone,
He sometimes wondered if he had a claim to the throne.
Yes, to be proclaimed the King of Greece,
Who could say? Wonders never cease!

Otto had read of a Bavarian Prince,
Yes, Bavarian, now don’t wince!
The son of King Ludwig I of Bavaria
Training to be a warrior, only much scarier.
“His name was Otto, just like mine!”
Otto Clipzinger did readily opine.
“It’s from Bavaria, from whence I came,”
“And from Bavaria, King Otto, just the same.”
Yes, Otto was from Bavarian stock,
Although, those meeting him now, thought him to be a Barbarian shock!

He became the first modern day King of Greece.
In 1832 until, perhaps, he did decease.
Well, actually, he was, in 1862, deposed,
Which indicates his subjects may have nosed,
Towards a military type coup.
A Bavarian ruling Greece! Wouldn’t you?
It raises the question, why not a Greek?
They produced Alexander the Great, not known to be meek!

Otto thought that if one Bavarian could get the job.
He too should be eligible, even though he was a slob!
King Otto the second, of the empire of Greece,
Otto fantasized, as he sliced up some cheese.
Yes, Otto was making hamburgers for lunch.
With a Germanic twist, which he delighted to munch.
He’d add metwurst by the thick slice,
Such an addition, he thought very nice.
And plenty of Becks, good German beer.
Fritz was coming, never you fear.
“I wonder if I could make Fritz a Prince?”
“He seems to have royal characteristics to evince.”
“He could be in command of my bodyguard.”
“Resplendent in uniform, trying real hard.”
