Museo Pape is one of the famous museums located in Monclova, Mexico. It is located at Harold Boulevard in Guadalupe. One of the successful American steelmakers, Harold R. Pape, worked with the Mexican government in the 1940s. He had a love for art and married a French artist called Suzanne "Lou" Robert in 1934. Harold was keen on promoting the education, culture, and social welfares in Monclova. This museum was a donation of Harold R. Pape to the city. Museo Pape’s construction began in 1972, and it was inaugurated in 1977. Antonio Harb was the main architect who designed the museum. The museum was opened to the public on 14th August 1977 and had the vision of spreading the various art forms and archaeological collections of Mexico.
The museum is spread over an area of 3,500 square meters and has a central library that houses about 130 thousand volumes of artifacts. There are three different levels in the museum. On the first level of the museum, a permanent room has been dedicated to Pape’s marriage. Since he had made significant contributions to the economic development of the city, this room is of utmost importance in all the historical museums across Monclova. The second level in the museum has permanent displays of Chinese ivory pieces, Mexican numismatics, re-creations of pre-Hispanic Mesoamerican work of art. Many temporary exhibitions are also displayed on this level. The third level has an auditorium that can accommodate around 260 people in a single sitting. Many concerts, book presentations, plays, and various other cultural events take place in this auditorium.
The museum premises also has a beautiful sculptural garden which is worth visiting. The audio-visual room in the museum showcases the cultural history of the city in the form of videos and presentations. A separate building has also been constructed to conduct various workshops and courses for students and adults. The museum is easily accessible by public transport, and you can also take your personal vehicle to visit the museum. Ample parking space is available on the premises. The museum operates from 10 am to 7 pm from Tuesday to Sunday. Mondays and public holidays are off days for the museum. There is no entrance fee to enter the museum.
