How Music Can Change Your Life

More than 20 years ago, a friend introduced me to a style of electronic music that was completely new to me. Back in the days, it was known as 'Goa'-trance, named after the city in India.

I don't have the time - nor the words - to explain how the discovery of this new style of music, and the entire 'way of life' that came with it, has changed me, but in short: it has made me a better person than i could have ever dreamed of.

I truly hope I'll ever be able to explain, but it is not easy to grasp if you haven't experienced it yourself.

Not so very long ago, @bengy published a contest for which you had to answer the question: 'What defines you as a person?'

This is my answer to that question. I can honestly say that this style of music, together with the people I've met in the 'scene' and the values that are connected with it - like being open-minded, tolerant, always searching for ways to become the best version of yourself you can be - has really defined me a s a person.

I've been more open about myself here on Steemit than I ever have in 'real' life, so I thought it was about time to introduce you to one of the most important things in my life.

Music Makes Me Feel

During the last 20 years, 'Goa-trance' has evolved and many different styles of music have been developed. Some I like, others I don't.

I now mainly listen to 'fullon psytrance' - as it is called. Generally, songs are about 144 up to 146 BPM, which is quite fast compared to a lot of other styles of electronic music.

Ever since I initially fell in love with psytrance, I haven't come across any sort of music that can touch my soul in a similar way.

Earlier today, in the car, it struck me once again how easily instant happiness could be achieved, just by listening to a song....

Accessible

The song in the video above isn't necessarily the best, but I thought I would go easy on you and choose one of the more 'accessible' ones. I like it a lot, and I get goosebumps all over, but it is definitely one that is a bit more mainstream than a lot of others. I did't want to scare you off, lol, so I thought it would be a good choice to introduce it to you.

The song 'Time Simulation' by Talamasca. Talamasca is the stage name of a French guy, Cédric Dassulle.

He often plays at parties here in Belgium and he's one of those guys that knows how to entertain on stage. Just head over to YouTube and do a search for 'Talamasca Live' to get what I mean. :0)

Invitation

So basically it comes down to this: I would like to officially introduce you to one of the biggest loves in my life: fullon psytrance music. I really hope you give it a chance and take the time to listen - even if it is only for a minute.

Song Lyrics

What is exactly a time simulation?

A time simulation is when you bring.
back a feeling from the past to the present.

It is very useful. You can experiment whatever you want.

Take a moment to think about a party you really enjoyed.
Focus on this wonderful feeling.
And while you are listening to the sound of my voice,
while you focus on this feeling, let it come back to the
present.

You begin to feel more and more excited.
You can now enjoy all those good feelings from the past
and you can keep this state of mind as long as you want.

Now, for me, it wouldn't feel right to just close off this post without taking this opportunity to get the word out about one of my best friends, who's also a psytrance producer, and performs under the name of BitKit.

Just in case you liked what you heard in the video above, I thought I'd post one of the songs of his first album too. Who knows you fall in love just like I did.

Again, this one is beautiful, but still a bit on the soft side.

While looking it up on YouTube, I noticed it has been years since he pulled this magic. Time really flies...

FYI, you can find the full 'Logical' album by Bitkit on YouTube.

And just so you won't think we're all softies, I'll add a last one. Two other good friends used to have a psytrance band callen Lani. They made some awesome music, but this remix of the song 'Temple Of Love' from The Sisters of Mercy is one of my favorites.

You should have seen them when they played a live set... So awesome!
These days, almost all psytrance artists use only their laptop, but not them. Live guitars and a badass drummer. They really rocked.

To bad they were too stubborn to keep working together... They split up years ago, but fortunately, their legacy lives on...

Unfortunately, the live videos all have very bad sound quality, so I guess the album version will have to do.

Enjoy.
