Symphysodon -Discus

I remember a time when aquarists who dreamed about this fish were frightened. They were told that at home this fish is not realistic to contain. It is difficult to leave behind her, it is difficult to feed her, she is very demanding on the composition of water and temperature regimes. Breeding this fish was considered something cosmic.

In those days, and these were the 80s, when I first poured water into the aquarium, it was impossible to find the exact thermostat that would allow to heat the water to 30 degrees Celsius and keep it at this parameter. We did not know then that the hardness of the water could be reduced with the help of peat extract. But, the best food for discus in our area has always been.

Tubifex tubifex, or sludge worm - this worm abound in urban ditches.

It can not be called clean, you can infection in the aquarium contagion, if not take steps to clean it. These worms gather in big balls. These balls are washed thoroughly under running water until the water after them is clear. Then, for a short time, they are poured with the simplest antibiotic in liquid form. After that, the worms are washed again and they are ready to go to the table with fish.

All that was required to get rid of the fears that are associated with the content of this fish is the exact thermostat.

Breeding discus is similar to breeding other Amazonian cichlids. Very similar to the breeding of the Astronotus. The male prepares a platform on a ceramic, or stone surface, the female attaches eggs there.

All photos are made by me, these are my aquariums.
