My 4 year old kid came with this idea: Fruit Skevers šŸ„šŸŒšŸŠ | Nutrition Class for the little ones

Hey guys,

Some days ago my kid Caleb, 4 year old, surprised me with his original idea of making fruit skevers. I swear I have nothing to do with it! My sweet little baby just said to me, out of nowhere:

Mommy, I want us to do some fruit skevers.

And I'm like Really? My gaze was fixed on the fruit stand to see what we have available and when I realized that it would be possible, I said Yes, of course.

I was so excited because this was totally his idea. Creativity and imagination of a four year old! ā¤ļø How could I not encourage him to experiment what he just created in his little mind?

So here we are!

Caleb knows he's aloud to have fruits, but not like 100 in a day. Why is this?

Well, a bit of nutrition here.

Fruits are Sugar.

Yes, they contain sugar. After getting into our body and after it is asimilated through the intestine, it gets the form of sugars.

So why are Fruits considered healthy?

Thats because most of the fruits are high in healthy compounds, vitamins and minerals.

If you'd eat sugar with a spoon, you'll get only Sugar.
But if you'd have a fruit, then you'll have the sugar + vitamins and minerals.

Thats the reason I'm paying attention on how many fruits my kid have in a day.
He tends to eat a lot of fruits, especially in the summer. He adores them. The fruits are his sweets, his treats or snacks.
In summer we have a lot of cheeries, sour cherries, blueberries, red currants, apples, grapes, pears, blackberries, figs, kaki fruit, plums. And these are only from our own orchad.

Then there are the fruits we're buying: melon, peaches, apricots, watermelon.
Not to mention he loves tropical fruits as well, like mango, kiwi, papaya, pomegranate, citruses.
I dont have a fruit right now in my mind he'll reject.

I use to say he could be a fruitarian for sure.šŸ˜‹

We had bananas, oranges, kiwi and dried apricots.
But they worked. Why not to?

Caleb helped with cuting the fruits too. He is just learning how to efficiently cut soft food ingredients, like bananas or mushrooms.

I let him help everytime he wants to. Its a good thing to get practical at home and learn some basics. Its part of his own developmend.
I'm always encouraging him to grow independent and I give him the chance to experiment the basic home stuff like cooking together, cleaning together, vacuum together, all these things.

And of course I used this opportunity so we could talk about sugar and nutrition and how sugar affects our body. Caleb really understands this concept and we have a lot of nutrition books for kids too. He got interested in nutrition about few months ago by looking to one episode of Dr. Binocs called Why are mineral important?

You have no idea how much I've been waiting for this moment. To be interested in these things so I can explain him more.

I think he had this idea with the skewers because two days ago from this day we created a solar system out of playdough and skewers. So this whole ideas with fruita it might came from that.

We ate everything! He was eager to share them with my and his dad. I love him!

I think they turned out cute, dont you think?

Thank you for reading everyone!

This post is also meant to be a sort of reminder that fruits are also sugar but they have substantial benefits for our health, especially for kids.

Every nutritionist in this whole world would say Give children fruits instead of sweets!.
Why is that? Well, you already know the answer if you've read my whole post.

Our children's health is our responsability!!

Start incorporating fruits in the kids diet rather than biscuits or whatever sweets you have at hand. They will love and always prefer their favorite fruits instead of garbage.

I know families and moms that are struggling with their kids diet and that these kids reject most of the fruits. Instead they'll hapilly eat all sweets found on the shelves of the supermarket. Sorry to say this, it's not my intention to sound like a smartass but its the parent's fault. The parents decided first for their child.
My advice is just to be aware that sweets are not healthy for kids diet, not at all. Their brain will be foggy and will ask for more sugar in time. They'll get addicted in short time only that later, in their life, to have health or obesity problems.

So try to have a balanced diet, especially take care of your children's diet!

love, missdeli šŸ’“
