After spending days and days seeing clay and ceramic crafts everywhere, we finally took an excursion to one of the largest factories in the Jujuy area. And it is that when one thinks of the northern areas these types of elements come to mind, so it is impossible not to take some souvenir from here. On the second day of our trip, we made a stop at this place to see in first person how these typical crafts are made ❤️.
Luego de pasar días y días viendo artesanías de barro y cerámica por todos lados, finalmente hicimos una excursión hasta una de las fábricas más grandes que tiene la zona de Jujuy. Y es que cuando uno piensa en las zonas norteñas le vienen a la mente este tipo de elementos, por lo que es imposible no llevarse algo de recuerdo de aquí. En el segundo día de nuestro viaje, hicimos parada en este lugar para conocer en primera persona como se hacen estas típicas artesanías ❤️.
The day was beautiful and it was quite hot. After our passage through the town of Tilcara , we headed towards this factory that was less than an hour from there. On the way we continue to admire mountains of beautiful colors, something never seen before for me 💕.
El día estuvo hermoso y hacía bastante calor. Después de nuestro paso por el pueblo de Tilcara, nos dirigimos hacia esta fábrica que quedaba a menos de una hora de allí. En el trayecto seguimos admirando montañas de hermosos colores, algo nunca antes visto para mí 💕.
The factory was located at the foot of the mountain range. It had a store and a large shed prepared to receive tourists and tell us how they do things there.
La fábrica se situaba al pie del cordón montañoso. Contaba con una tienda y un gran galpón preparado para recibir a lls turistas y contarnos como hacen las cosas allí.
They explained to us that all the things they sell are made by the master craftsman. This person has been working there for several years, so he has a lot of experience in molding these elements. He even gave us a live demonstration where he made a container for storing sugar - in less than a minute he had it ready with a lid and all!
Nos explicaron que todas las cosas que ellos venden estan hechas por el maestro artesano. Esta persona trabaja allí hace varios años, por lo que tiene mucha experiencia en el moldeado de estos elementos. Incluso nos hizo una demostración en vivo en la que preparó un recipiente para guardar azúcar: ¡en menos de un minuto lo tuvo listo con tapa y todo!

These sculptures are made from clay obtained directly from the mountains and are also painted with dyes obtained from the same site. All this completely handmade process seemed beautiful and above all, a great source of work for the people of that area.
Estas esculturas estan hechas a base de arcilla obtenida directamente desde las montañas y también estan pintadas con colorantes obtenidas del mismo sitio. Todo este proceso completamente artesanal me pareció hermoso y sobre todo, una gran fuente de trabajo para la gente de esa zona.
In addition to small sculptures, they make pots that are their star product. The manufacturing process of the pots is a little more complex since it requires polishing and baking in an oven to be able to withstand the high temperatures.
Además de pequeñas esculturas, ellos realizan ollas que son su producto estrella. El proceso de fabricación de las ollas es un poco más complejo ya que requiere un pulido y cocción en horno para poder soportar las altas temperaturas.
With the clay they use for the other elements, in this case they also add a mineral called 'pirka', which is the one in charge of absorbing all the heat and that the pot does not break or break when placed in direct fire.
Junto a la arcilla que utilizan para los demas elementos, en este caso también añaden un mineral llamado 'pirka', que es aquel encargado de absorber todo el calor y que la olla no se rompa ni se quiebre al momentos de colocarla en fuego directo.
The pots are dried in the sun and then they go through the oven to finish cooking. If reddish pots are desired, use chimney ovens; but if you want black pots, the absence of a chimney causes the same smoke from the oven to stain the pieces. Wonderful ❤️!
El secado de las ollas se realiza al sol y luego pasan por el horno para terminar de cocinarse. Si se desean ollas rojizas, se utilizan hornos con chimenea; pero si se quieren ollas negras, la ausencia de chimenea hace que el mismo humo del horno tiña las piezas. ¡Maravilloso ❤️!
Finally, the guided tour included a demonstration of the pot operating on direct fire without breaking. I think this ended up convincing us all because almost all of us here bought one 😅. The indications say that before using the pot it must be 'cured' by covering it with butter and heating it in the oven for half an hour. This causes a non-stick coating to form and extends the life of the part.
Para finalizar, la visita guiada incluyó una demostración de la olla funcionando en fuego directo sin romperse. Creo que esto terminó de convencernos a todos porque casi todos los presentes nos compramos una 😅. Las indicaciones dicen que antes de usar la olla hay que 'curarla' cubriendola de manteca y calentandola en horno durante media hora. Esto hace que se forme una capa antiadherente y alarga la vida útil de la pieza.

The factory shop included all the utensils that were made there and there was a special price for tourists. From Buenos Aires, my sister wanted a pot and I bought a cup that in fact I have not used yet and it has been almost a month of this trip x). Anyway, it is the memory that I have of having been there.
La tienda de la fábrica incluía todos los utensilios que allí se fabricaban y había un precio especial para los turistas. Desde Buenos Aires, mi hermana quiso una olla y yo me compré una taza que de hecho aún no he usado y ya pasó casi un mes de este viaje x). De todos modos, es el recuerdo que me quedó de haber estado allí.
It was great to have known this place and the art they make in the north of my country. During the talk, the guide said that it is important to spread the different cultures that spread throughout Argentina, otherwise, without word of mouth, they will end up disappearing. This seemed very important to me because, at least I, had not heard of this before. I always like to learn something new, and so it was with this art ❤️.
Fue genial haber conocido este lugar y el arte que realizan en el norte de mi país. Durante la charla, la guía dijo que es importante la difusión de las distintas culturas que se extienden a lo largo de toda Argentina, de otro modo, sin el boca-en-boca, terminaran por desaparecer. Esto me pareció muy importante porque, por lo menos yo, no había oído de esto antes. Siempre me gusta aprender algo nuevo, y así fue con este arte ❤️.
