Hello #plantpower community, this time I join the vegan challenge, an initiative by my friend @sirenahippie that consists of buying cocoa or chocolate. On this occasion I went shopping at a commercial establishment and bought a 200 gr cocoa powder ballot for 1.86$.
Since the creation of the world, God provided man with all the resources necessary for his subsistence. He gave him every tree that bears fruit and every plant that yields seed for his benefit, profit and delight.
Among the many plants that God created is cocoa, whose fruit has been widely used in different cultures and coveted by many. The cocoa fruit is very versatile to prepare among which is a very delicious chocolate drink for the Mayas to the point of calling it the "cacao drink".
As I have mentioned in previous publications, I was born in a small town where the main source of income was agriculture and fishing. Most of my family is dedicated to working the land. In the beginning they worked planting rice, tobacco and vegetables such as pumpkin, ocumo, among others. But with the passing of time in the haciendas they began to plant cocoa and little by little this became the main product.
Nowadays in the haciendas of my uncles we can practically only find cocoa plants and some other fruits. Many years have passed and the harvests are very different since there are many kinds of cocoa and that influences the taste and texture of cocoa.
Now, one of the tips I learned from my uncles when buying cocoa or chocolate is to evaluate its appearance and texture. Cocoa should be dry and smooth.
How can we preserve cocoa? One of the basic ways that I learned in my village is to reserve the cocoa in napkins or aluminum foil and store it in an airtight cup. It is worth mentioning that it can last for a long time preserving its texture and aspects.
Another way to preserve the cocoa or chocolate is to place it in a cardboard base and roll it very well in plastic wrap and then reserving it in the refrigerator.
