Hello, greetings to @plantpower/vegan community. Today's post is my contribution to the @plantpower contest of shopping citrus fruits. There are many possibilities in Norway to buy different citrus fruits during the winter season.
Here in India we also have some citrus fruits such as oranges, sweet-limes, limes, imported malta oranges and lemons. But oranges are not quite the same quality as we use to in norway. Here we mostly prefer tropical locally growing fruits like papaya, guava, pomegranate, pineapples, grapes, lime, watermelon locally growing oranges called Narangi, sweetlime called Mosambi, lime called limbu. we buy limes but we also have a special variety in our garden. sorry to say that for the last three years they didn't get any attention so the are yielding much less. now we buy from the market.
by far the best citrus fruit growing locally here is pomelo. it is not yet season for them but when they are ripe they are most delicious. not juicy and sour like grapefruit. tree ripened they are bigger and slightly dry but in a good way with a wonderfully nuanced taste. i am sad i cannot show a photo of any because if they were available i certainly would be buying.
This fruit vendor, Sameer is known for having good quality and variety of fruits so we are regular customers.
Sunday is our market day and we buy a whole weeks stock of vegetables, fruit and more. Meeting local farmers, preferring to buy from them or from some known local vendors having their stall often with things from their garden or maybe some neighbors garden. local farmers are very underpaid so we don't bargain with them but more important is that we are friendly and respectful. in return they give us good prices. funny how that works
But for most fruits not grown locally, the vendors come from distant towns with a routine going from market to market on the different days of the week, living on the road.
.
this orange is from Nagpur, a place in Maharashtra (famous for sweet-lime, oranges, and limes.) they are more juicy than the imported ones.
We try both local and imported but local are usually better.
We buy Nagpur oranges often.
we use a lot of these limes
I was checking the imported oranges I was not happy to buy them But my husband said we should try them.
The guy was asking me to give a good price for grapes.
sweet limes are mostly for juicing. I was thinking to buy some but I changed my mind because our juicer is rusted (three years not in use) And besides they don't look very juicy for the price.
We would like to help this boy by buying some limes I was waiting for the other customer to finish.
in the end, I bought some oranges and limes.
After making my smoothie for the super smoothie contest by @amazingdrinks some fruits were left over, I use one orange and 1 lime juice to make this super fruit salad.
Thank you for following me shopping in Shiroda market in Maharashtra, India. Thanks to my husband @eolianpariah2 for driving to the market, carrying heavy bags and taking some photos.
