Tu Veggie Shopping (Onions)| Variety of Onions to choose

image.png

Greetings, dear foodies!

I'm back here, attending the invitation made by our dear @sirenahippie to participate in the weekly shopping contest. This time, we have to go to the supermarket to buy onions. I leave you the link so you can review the rules and be encouraged to participate.

My favorite supermarket to buy vegetables, fruits and greens are those known as Fruver, one of the first supermarkets I knew when I arrived in Bogota and where you make good purchases for the price-quality ratio of the products. I had commented in this publication about my experience shopping in this great place where you get very fresh products, seasonal fruits, among other things.

Arriving at this supermarket is like arriving in paradise. It is a truly multisensory experience, because the colorful array of so many vegetables and fruits, beautifully organized, is a visual spectacle, and the aromas of fresh fruits that seek to stand out among them are caresses for the sense of smell.

On this occasion, I went straight to the shelves where the onions are displayed.

In this supermarket, I got several types of onions. The most curious thing is that the white or purple onion that we know, here they call them "cebollas cabezonas". Thus, they sell white onion cabezona and red onion cabezona instead of purple onion. Another categorization is that these onions can be sold dirty or washed. On this occasion, I was only able to get white onion, dirty, and red onion, clean or washed.

After picking out the white onions, I set out to pick some purple ones to include in my shopping this week.

As you can see in the photos I am sharing with you, there are some small ones and some large ones. I almost never buy them too big, because I like the small ones, they are more comfortable to handle for chopping and, also, I find their flavor is better.

Next to the purple onions I found the cebollín, with this name I used to buy it in Venezuela, here in Bogota it is known as cebolla larga, and I have been told that in other areas they call it cebollino.

So, although I already had some white onion at home and, also, chives, which is another type of onion, I bought some more and added some red onion and chives or long onion that I was missing.

Having made the purchase, let's see the prices and what I paid for each of the onions. The onion or long onion costs 4,600 Colombian pesos per kilogram, which is equivalent to $1 approximately, I bought 0.340grs and paid 1,564 pesos. The kilo of white onion costs 1,600 Colombian pesos which would be $0.35 approximately, for 0.275grs I paid 440 pesos, it seems incredible to me that with a 500 peso coin I can make a purchase of onions. Finally, the kilo of purple or red onion costs 3,200 pesos, this is equivalent to approximately $0.70, for 0.335grs I paid 1,136 pesos.

Once at home, I took pictures with the different types of onions and added the package of chives to show him this other type that is a thin sprig and that I love to put on tortillas. I don't remember the price of the last time I bought it, but it is not expensive.

That's the end of my shopping this week.

Delighted to participate in this contest. I take this opportunity to thank @sagarkothari88 for supporting the community and especially this kind of initiatives.

See you next time.
