This is my entry for #pic1000 contest to write a story based on the above picture.
What I see
A dog looking cold and lonely on a cobbled street.
What I feel
It makes me feel sad that this dog looks all alone. What is he missing?
My story
Adam had called me from the hospital to give me the news and I was distraught to hear how he had fallen whilst out walking Benjy. Luckily, he was ok. Well, a fracture in his arm but given Adam's age, they were keeping him in for a while for observation. Adam didn't seem to mind and his only concern was, where was Benjy?
Adam had been taken whilst in shock in the ambulance to the local hospital but no one seem to know what happened to his dog. I, therefore, agreed to go by his house and see if Benjy had made the journey home. However, there was no sign. I whistled and called Benjy's name but to no avail.
I thought to retrace the route that I knew Adam usually frequented but still no luck. Adam would be so disappointed. Benjy was his life!
Giving up, I decided to walk back into town to go to the hospital and see Adam. I would have to break the bad news that I hadn't managed to find Benjy anywhere. He would be heartbroken.
And then here I was, tears in my own eyes. I was walking up the cobbled street behind the old town hospital and there in front of me, lying cold and shivering on the street - Benjy! How did he know where Adam was? Could he smell his scent inside? He looked so vulnerable lying here on the pavement but the dedication of this dog made me cry.
