Wooden Pendant by OcarinaWind

This is the wooden pendant ocarina, made by OcarinaWind. They used to sell it themselves, but now it is only available through Amazon…I’m sure the small business wasn’t hurt in that transition…

The stock photo from the website, below, looks really crisp; my guess is this one’s got some editing in its history. Either way, great title shot.

Now here’s mine, held by me. I struggled to get a picture as clear and nice as the one on the site, but eventually had to resolve to the fact that my phone-cam wasn’t going to be able to keep up with the big boys and their pro gear.

This is the mouthpiece; you blow in through this little slit. Honestly, the level of skill required both in engineering and fabrication is very impressive for me here. The thing sells for way less than I’d be willing to let it go for if I’d made it, though admittedly, I wouldn’t pay much more than what I did…still, there is an incredible amount of work and energy inside this little guy.

On the underbelly, you can see the sound hole and the two thumb positions. Dangling, you can see the necklace hook/latch whatever. I put that on so I could put it on a necklace or keychain, and take it off to play it whenever.

Despite much bad luck with the camera, I was able to get one decent shot of the detailed stamping. Looks like this baby is in the key of F? Cool!

Some editing was obviously done here. Not a ton, the floor was gray originally, but as I tuned the photo settings to try to get the wood-tone to match, it became a sort of cool blue. I liked it, so here it is!

Of course, I really don’t like advertising for Amazon, but they’ve swallowed up so many small businesses, I can’t tell you about this ocarina without mentioning the company that at least appears to have acquired exclusive distribution rights.

The manufacturer is OcarinaWind, but even if you buy from the store directly, you receive an Amazon package, as was the case for me. I tried every alternative avenue, hoping to avoid streaming revenue directly to this giant, but in the end, I had to bow down or walk away…and I can’t walk away from a unique wind instrument like this. Coat was low and shipping was fast of course, so nothing really to complain about on my end personally, it’s Amazon’s practices on the larger scale that have turned me off entirely. Anyway, hopefully the Beast has been kind to this small ocarina-maker, their product is like nothing I’ve ever seen.

Thanks for checking out some more of my work! As always, I hope you enjoyed witnessing as much as I enjoyed creating!
