Personally I'm not big on Christmas, so I'll survive not being able to visit friends and family these couple of days during the quarantine my family now is under; my wife and I both tested positive on covid-19 a week ago, so we're still in the mandatory 10 day "solitary confinement" as to not be a danger to other people's health.

So, while I'm not big on Christmas, I do still enjoy the holidays attached to it. And I am big on holidays and more free time for workers in general. If we look back in history, and also if we look around us right now, we see that it is leftists who have consistently advocated for more free time. To say that leftists are the enemies of the Christmas vacation, or any other holiday, is a travesty committed by right wing ideologues who accuse us of waging a war on Christmas. In fact, each and every right or protection of the lower and middle class, from the 8 hour workday, abolishing child labor, worker safety protection, the 5 day work week and so on, has come from leftist progressive activism, protests and policies.
This year, and in America in particular, has exposed who the real enemies of Christmas are; the people who denied you your stimulus checks and the government who didn't take responsibility for adequately handling the pandemic. They are responsible for the fact that this year many more parents had to look their child in the eyes and explain to them that this time around Santa can not visit their house. Why? Well, maybe Santa has fallen ill as well, my dear. Or maybe Santa and his faithful helpers are in quarantine on the North Pole, my sweetheart. That's what I imagine many parents in America having to say to their young children this year. I can only hope that those parents realize for themselves who robbed them from this year's chance of having anything resembling a normal Christmas holiday. And if parents in one of those many paycheck to paycheck families, with great effort and planning, did manage to buy a cheap toy for their kid, there's a big chance they'll have to dry this kid's tears when that toy breaks after a short time playing with it, due to capitalism's focus on profits rather than quality. Santa's helpers were sick this year my dear, that's probably why this year's toys aren't assembled as well as in other years; I'm sure Santa will make up for it next year...
And if we leave out the pandemic, it's right wing politics, with its emphasis on individualism and the capitalist economy who may well be responsible for an increasing number of parents not being able to do that little extra for their kids in future Christmas vacations. If we continue on this path of the neoliberal global economy, Christmas will become more and more irrelevant for an increasing number of people who won't be able to buy presents for their kids or pay the costs for traveling to their friends or family. That, and the decisively right wing focus on individualism will prevent more and more people from bonding, organizing and simple togetherness. The feeling of being part of a whole, of something bigger than ones self, starts with a close knit family, and even that unity has been under attack from those who, through their ideologically motivated politics, have forced each and every family member to have one or more jobs, each of them sharing the stress of living paycheck to paycheck and having to worry about what happens if one of those paychecks doesn't arrive in time or not at all.
Just remember who the real enemies of Christmas, as well as other topics routinely associated with right wing conservatism, are. They're pro life where unborn fetuses are concerned, but anti life in almost all other cases, they go on and on about traditional family values, but through their ideology and economics assault and break up that family. Don't listen to their words, look at the consequences of their actions. This goes for professional politicians in general, but even more so for those on the right wing of the political spectrum. There. That was my farewell to Christmas in 2020; don't let your leaders make it a permanently farewell...
