It's been a long time since I've participated in this contest, but this week's topic appeals to me terribly. I was born in 1985, so I can't say that I consciously lived the 80's, as I was just a baby, but that doesn't mean that I didn't enjoy all the good things about that era, the movies that became classics and that we still see today, make us want to go back to that time or live it. There are many films that I would like to name, but I have decided to choose one that I saw recently and that I really like a lot.
Hace muchísimo tiempo que no participo en este concurso, pero el tópico de esta semana me atrae terriblemente. Yo nací en 1985, así que no puedo decir que viví conscientemente la época de los 80, pues apenas y era un bebé, pero eso no significa que yo no disfruté de todo lo bueno que tuvo esa época, las películas que se volvieron un clásico y que todavía vemos aún hoy en día, nos hacen desear regresar a esa época o vivirla. Son muchas las películas que me gustaría nombrar, pero he decidido elegir una que vi recientemente y que de verdad me gusta mucho.
Overview/Resumen
This film tells us the story of Emmy, who is an Egyptian girl who can't stand the idea of marrying someone she doesn't love, so she decides to hide from her mother, who wants to force her to marry, Emmy asks the gods to be able to meet her true love in the future, and as if they had heard her, she suddenly disappeared, then the years pass and we can see Jonathan Switcher, a young sculptor who works in Philadelphia, who with his great talent manages to create a mannequin of a woman, but for some reason his boss fired him, actually Jonathan can never last too long in a job, but soon after he managed to see the mannequin he created in the window of a shop, and was simply amazed with his creation, but after saving the life of an older woman, she offers him a job in her shop that has the mannequin he created, Jonathan starts looking for the mannequin and finally gets it, but he never imagined that it would come to life and that she was convinced that they were destined for each other, Jonathan and Emmy have fun at night in that shop, trying on clothes and things like that, but best of all, Emmy helped him a lot to create a fresh and attractive image of the shop window, something that little by little makes Jonathan very successful in his work and at the same time arouses the admiration of his boss and the envy of Richards and Captain Felix.
Esta película nos cuenta la historia de Emmy, quien es una chica egipcia que no soporta la idea de casarse con alguien que no ama, así que decide esconderse de su madre que es quien pretende obligarla a casarse, Emmy le pide a los dioses poder reunirse con su amor verdadero en el futuro, y tal como si ellos la hubiesen escuchado, de pronto desapareció, luego pasan los años y podemos ver a Jonathan Switcher, un joven escultor que trabaja en Philadelphia, que con su gran talento logra crear el maniquí de una mujer, pero por alguna razón su jefe lo despidió, en realidad Jonathan nunca puede durar demasiado en un empleo, pero poco tiempo después él logró ver al maniquí que creo en la vitrina de una tienda, y simplemente quedó maravillado con su creación, pero después de salvarle la vida a una mujer mayor, ella le ofrece un empleo en su tienda que es la que tiene el maniquí que él creó, Jonathan comienza a buscar al maniquí y finalmente lo consigue, pero él jamás imaginó que este cobraría vida y que estaba convencida de que estaban destinados el uno para el otro, Jonathan y Emmy se divierten por las noches en aquella tienda, probándose ropa y cosas como esas, pero lo mejor de todo es que Emmy lo ayudó mucho a crear una imagen fresca y atractiva de la vitrina de la tienda, algo que poco a poco hace que Jonathan tenga mucho éxito en su trabajo y al mismo tiempo despierte la admiración de su jefa y la envidia de Richards y el capitán Felix.

My Opinion/Mi Opinión
There are too many things in this film that I loved, first of all the fact that it seems to be inspired by the legend of Greek mythology where Pygmalion, a very talented young sculptor, who after having been in the unsuccessful search for the perfect woman, felt frustrated and decided to stay alone, dedicating himself to creating sculptures, but on one occasion he created one that he decided to call Galatea, and she was so beautiful that he fell madly in love with her. I really thought it was very original and interesting that they took this proposal to the cinema but with a much fresher and modern approach (for its time) and I think this is what made the film special.
Hay demasiadas cosas en este film que me encantaron, en primer lugar el hecho de que parece estar inspirada en la leyenda de la mitología griega donde Pigmalión, un joven escultor muy talentoso, que después de haber estado en la búsqueda sin éxito de la mujer perfecta, se sintió frustrado y decidió quedarse solo, dedicándose a crear esculturas, pero en una ocasión creó una a la que decidió llamar Galatea, y era tan bella que se enamoró perdidamente de ella. De verdad me pareció muy original e interesante que llevaran esta propuesta al cine pero con un enfoque mucho más fresco y moderno (para su época) y creo que esto fue lo que hizo especial a la película.
As for the characters, I can't fail to highlight that I have two favourites, one is Captain Felix (played by G. W. Bailey) 🤣 I really love him, although I can't overlook that his character seemed a copy of Captain Harris from Police Academy, a despot who tries to abuse his power, with a rather cowardly and inept partner, Proctor in Police Academy and his dogs Rambo and Terminator in this film, but his dialogues and tantrums make me laugh a lot. My other favourite character could be none other than Hollywood, the shop window guy, he's a very funny guy, I like him not only because he makes me laugh with his dialogue, he did stereotype the gay community a bit, but it was quite common at the time, but what I like most about him is that he was a great support for Jonathan, I mean, even though he found his fascination with the mannequin weird, he never judged him, even though he didn't understand him, he didn't look at him like he was a rare species, he was willing to help him at all times.
En cuanto a los personajes, no puedo dejar de resaltar que tengo dos favoritos, uno es el capitán Felix (interpretado por G. W. Bailey) 🤣 de verdad me encanta, aunque no puedo pasar por alto que su personaje parecía una copia del Capitán Harris de Locademia de Policía, un tipo déspota que intenta abusar de su poder, con un compañero bastante cobarde e inepto, Proctor en Locademia de Policías y sus perros Rambo y Terminator en esta película, pero sus diálogos y rabietas me hacen reír mucho. Mi otro personaje favorito no podía ser otro más que Hollywood, el vitrinista de la tienda, es un tipo muy gracioso, me gusta no solo porque me hace reír con sus diálogos, tal vez sí que estereotipaba un poco a la comunidad gay, pero era algo bastante común en su época, pero lo que más me gusta de él es que fue un gran apoyo para Jonathan, es decir, aunque le pareció rara su fascinación por el maniquí, nunca lo juzgó, por más que no lo entendiera, no lo miró como si fuese una especie rara, sino que se dispuso a ayudarlo en todo momento.
The scene I liked the most is very representative of the 80's, it's the moment when Emmy and Jonathan dance around the shop wearing various costumes, I like it not only because they look happy and funny, but also because it represents the evolution of their relationship.
La escena que más me gustó es muy representativa de los 80, se trata de del momento en el que Emmy y Jonathan bailan por toda la tienda usando varios disfraces, me gusta no solo porque lucen felices y divertidos, sino porque representa la evolución de su relación.
But one of the things I loved the most about this film is the soundtrack, especially the film's theme song "Nothing's gonna stop us now" by the band Starship, it is seriously my favourite song in the whole world after John Lennon's "Imagine", this song infuses the film with energy and a very pleasant feeling of invincibility, just listening to it makes you feel that nobody can beat you.
Pero una de las cosas que más adoré de esta película es su soundtrack, en especial el tema central de la película "Nothing's gonna stop us now" de la banda Starship, en serio es mi canción favorita en todo el mundo después de "Imagine" de John Lennon, este tema infunde energía a la película y un sentimiento muy grato de invencibilidad, simplemente al escucharlo sientes que nadie podrá vencerte.
I think this movie could come back now, they could definitely do a remake, and it would be a very interesting thing to watch, I think I wouldn't change anything about it, because even the exaggerated Hollywood moves that fall into the stereotype are okay, Seriously, I once had a friend exactly like him, he was a very funny and nice guy, especially due to the fact that, as I mentioned before, he never set out to judge anyone, he lived his life without criticizing others . Mannequin also teaches us that when you truly feel passion for what you do, when you put love and effort into your work, you also give it a bit of your soul and somehow it "comes alive".
Creo que esta película podría volver actualmente, sin lugar a dudas podrían hacer un remake, y sería algo muy interesante de ver, creo que yo no cambiaría nada de ella, porque incluso hasta los movimientos exagerados de Hollywood que caen en el estereotipo están bien, en serio, una vez tuve un amigo exactamente igual a él, era un tipo muy divertido y agradable, sobre todo por el hecho de que, como mencioné anteriormente, nunca se dispuso a juzgar a nadie, vivía su vida sin criticar la de los demás. Mannequin además nos enseña que cuando verdaderamente sientes pasión por lo que haces, cuando le pones amor y empeño a tu trabajo, también le imprimes un poco de tu alma y de alguna forma "cobra vida"
Unfortunately I didn't get to see this film at the time because I was only two years old, but from the moment I discovered it I found it simply fascinating.
Lamentablemente no pude ver esta película en su época porque yo solo tenía dos años de edad, pero desde que la descubrí me pareció simplemente fascinante.
