Day 745: 5 Minute Freewrite: Monday - Prompt: sea level

This is my post for #freewrite Monday prompt sea level hosted by @mariannewest

In my area of the Indian River Lagoon, we do not have much of a rise and fall of the tide due to sea level. When we get a lot of north wind our water gets higher and a south wind makes it low. To my north, the river gets wider to the south it narrows and this is the reason for our tides rise and fall.

This part does not have to do with sea level it has to do with erosion. When I was a kid the cabins that were along the dune of the beach are now sitting down on the beach, that is how much it has eroded. I think there is only one left, it is still there because the owner had it moved back up the beach but since doing this it is already sitting back down on the beach. There was a dirt road you had to take to get to the inlet, this road was not far west of the cabins. Now it is on the dune line.

By the old boat ramp at the inlet, there are some big rocks that were placed there to stop it from eroding. One of these rocks had a spot that looked like a seat on top of it, it was my favorite fishing spot. It fit my butt just right. The rocks were always out of the water when I was young. Now every time I have been there those rocks are all underwater, I do not know if this is because the sea level has risen or the rocks have sunk.

I believe in global warming and know the glaciers are melting and if we do not change things, I do not know what is going to happen, what I do know is it worries me. Not for my life but for my grandkids and their grandkid's lives. Sometimes I think wouldn't it be better if we got rid of all the cars, the electricity, all technology and go back to the horse and buggy days, maybe then we can stop global warming. People lived like that for thousands of years, why can't we do it. Isn't our world worth a little discomfort in order to save it?
