FreeWrite Monday Prompt - Dog Whistles

I decided to participate in this fun challenge... so here goes a fictional story based on Dog Whistles:

Title: Whistle Scammer

Morning arrived. Finally.

For the 8th night in a row in this small village, the dogs had kept everyone up... howling, bellowing, scratching at the doors, fighting with each other, and scavenging for food.

Where had they come from? Why were they here? Mangy dogs of every size and sort. All foul smelling and irritable.

The village people were at their wits end. Doors and windows had to be kept closed and locked in spite of the heat. Several people had been bitten or otherwise acosted.

Yet one strange villager strolled through the city. Humming and happy.

Why wasn't he haggard and sleep deprived like everyone else? Dog Whistles.

What?

Yep... Dog Whistles, he said. He had dog whistles. They were only 15 pieces of coin a piece.

15 pieces of coin! Outrageous!

But what is peace of mind worth?

That night the "villager" left town. With dog crates, whistles, and plenty of money in tow.

It works every time, he thought.
