Hmmmm... this is a repost, as @dtube seems to have done a seperate chain sort of thing which should have crossposted to STEEM, but instead hasn't....
In this video, I'm testing the specific gravity of some coins that I had bought from Ebay. Two Krugerands, One Philharmonic and one suspicious Europa holed coin. Pure silver has a pretty specific (haha) specific gravity of 10.49, which is the ratio of the dry weight to the water submerged weight of the coin.
This is a pretty simple test to do, and in combination with the ring test and magnetic tests it does lend a touch of confidence to the pieces of silver that I've bought from second hand or auction sites. Also, all three of these tests are non-destructive as well, which is good for something that you don't want to destroy!
In the video, I also show the little trick that I had for "tying" a string to a round coin... which initially drove me nuts when I first tried this test... but I cheated!
Of course, these tests were pretty rough and ready... it was more to see if they were in the ballpark area of the specific gravity. More to find the definite false ones and add a little confidence to the others!

So, as you see from that table... I'm not totally convinced about that last Europa coin. In fact, I would almost be sure that it is NOT pure silver, luckily I didn't pay the silver price for it! However, the other coins were pretty spot on... so I'm happy about that!
