So i was asked to do a blog on helping making jewelry and drilling shells and glass but i think that this is more simple until i have the time to show how much work drilling is ( i will do a blog soon on drilling i promise ❤). So today ill do a simple wire wrapping on clear seaglass. This should be your end product.
Step 1... pick out your stones or what ever your going to wrap.
Step 2... get 24 gauge soft wire and cut about 7 inches or so, this will very on the size of your stone . Its better to have a little extra when starting then not enough. With time you will learn how much is needed for each piece and not waste as much. But as a beginner its better to be safe with extra. Im using colored wire because the seaglass is clear and it will add a better look i think then just sliver wire.
Step 3... you want to take your two pieces of wire and cross them.
Step 4... twist the two wires in the center a few times, i did it 3 times here.
Step 5...you want to place the wire in the center of the back of your glass like this.
The front will look like this to you.
Step 6... holding the glass with the wire in the back and the open wires facing you, you want to pull the two wires in the center of the front like this.
Step 7... then twist the two together a few times like this .
Step 8... now that your wires are crossed again grab the two on the side and twist up a few times. Do it to both sides.
Step 9...Now that you have twisted both sides , your going to start to make your barrel. Take the two longest pieces and twist together like this. I come back to this after i have done the next step but if you want to finish it now you can. Ill show my steps when i get back to this part.
Step 10.. I use the two short pieces to add curls like this.
Keep twisting and turning with your flat pliers till it looks like this. Repeat to the backside one as well.
Step 11... I'm going to now finish the barrel by using my needle nose pliers and push the extra short ones in from cutting off the extra.
Step 12.. if you have too much slack in the wire you can go back with your needle nose pliers and bend the wire a little to tighten like this.
And thats it your done. Just keep at it and with time you will get better. This was the first way i learned to wire wrap till i got the hang of the different wire grades. I would love to see what you have made or if this helped anyone in anyway.. like i said this is very beginner style.
