Let’s Watch with Travelgirl #18 - Real Clothes

Real clothes was a drama I actually saw a few times. The reason being was it was a dream of mine to be working as a buyer when I was still studying in uni and this drama just ticked all the boxes. Based on the Japanese anime also called “Real Clothes”, Kinue starred by Karina Nose (香里奈) started working in a department store in Japan selling doonas and futons. On a random day, she was transferred to the women’s clothing department where she has no experience. As a person who doesn’t look after her own looks let alone have any fashion sense, she has found this job extremely difficult. Her big boss and also the head of the women’s fashion department. Jinbo Miki played by Kuroki Hitomi was strict, harsh and an ambitious boss. Kinue was forced to work with Jinbo Miki.

Kinue was also not a weak person. She knows she lacks in the fashion area so she forced herself to understand and learn on the job. She gradually changed from a dag to semi well dressed fashion assistance to the head of the department but with lots of hard work. Jinbo Miki saw her potential from the beginning and assisted her all the way as she see Kinue as the young her minus the daggy look.

This drama not only is all about fashion, but you see lots of real life office situations especially a female dominated environment. There are times Kinue could be overcoming problems on her own and even turning the impossible to something successful. Fashion is a brutal industry and ‘Real Clothes’ also shows this side. Rivalry are amongst a high competitive industry was also shown in the show. The music in this whole drama was catchy especially the theme song. Karina & Kuroki Hitomi both suited the roles and although Kuroki Hitomi was a lot older than Karina in real life, in the show she didn’t look her age. Highly recommended drama to watch if you are into fashion and pretty things.
