Let’s Watch with Travelgirl #13 - Gen X Cops

I came across this film Gen X Cop because of Nicolas Tse & Daniel Wu. Back in the late 90s, they were popular and pretty much everything they starred in would be a big hit. The overall storyline was the the Hong Kong police needed some new fresh face to be undercover to locate some dangerous jet fuel explosives which has Akatura behind all this. The police wants to ensure the explosives could be found before it gets sold in the underground markets. The force found 3 students that looks like thugs and put them on this dangerous project.

Nicholas Tse who plays Jack is the main character of the film. He is definitely the cool guy and wants to the the top of everything. Due to this looks, he plays this character so well because he does have the “up himself” look when he doesn’t smile. Stephen Fung who plays Match is the guy with the good looks who is popular with the girls. He rather flirts than make sure the missions he has in hand gets completed. Sam Lee who plays Alien is the guy who doesn’t have the looks, muscles or skills. He doesn’t like following orders but he does complete his missions when needed.

Tofu Nakamura who plays Akatora is the guy the police is trying to get. He is the brain behind the whole robbery and smuggling of the explosives. He has a helper played by Daniel Wu who also is called Daniel in the film. He takes on the 3 undercover cops while in Hong Kong and would eventually go face to face with Match who his girlfriend left for in the film.

The film ended up doing very well and they made a sequel called Gen Y Cops. It was popular because the actors in there were very popular at the time and it was tipped as a film to win the other competitor during that time. Jackie Chan even appeared for a scene in the movie. Although the acting wasn’t top notch but the popularity of these actors made the difference. The theme song for the movie “You Can’t Stop Me” was popular at the time and at one point was very popular on the karaoke charts. Gen X Cops definitely is a classic film in the late 1990s in Hong Kong.
