Es un día para rendir honor a los pequeñitos que alegran la vida de una familia. Este día tiene su origen después de la Segunda Guerra Mundial, cuando algunos movimientos y organizaciones defendían los derechos de los niños. En 1954, se estableció el día Universal del Niño, y el 20 de noviembre de 1959, la Asamblea General de la ONU adoptó la Declaración de los Derechos del Niño. Ese mismo día en 1989, se adoptó la Convención de los Derechos del Niño. Es por ello que la ONU celebra este día cada 20 de noviembre. Sin embargo, la ONU instó a los países a escoger propio día según su historia y costumbres. Cada país celebra el día del niño en distintas fechas y de varias maneras. En Venezuela, se celebra el tercer domingo de julio, y ese día se realizan distintas actividades y eventos públicos. Por ejemplo, en China, el día del niño es un día de asueto. Los niños menores de 14 años no asisten a la escuela sino que salen de paseo a centros comerciales, al cine, a teatros y generalmente las entradas son gratuitas. También hay ofertas y descuentos en algunas tiendas. Incluso algunos padres tienen el día libre también para disfrutar con sus hijos. China se conoce como un país con un sistema educativo riguroso, por ello el hecho de que den el día libre a los niños significa lo importante que es ese día para ellos. Antiguamente, en Japón, el día del niño era solo para varones, pero esa política cambió y ahora las niñas lo celebran también. Hay festividades y actos culturales. El negro representa al padre, el rojo a la madre y el verde al hijo(s)} En India, celebran el día del niño cada 14 de noviembre, graciosamente nueve meses después del día de San Valentín. Pero realmente el origen de este día es la conmemoración del nacimiento del Primer Ministro Nehru, quien amaba a los niños y era para ellos el “Tío Nehru”. Tras su muerte, se ha celebrado este día como el Día del Niño en la India. En otros países, la conmemoración de este día es un poco más significativa, como en los países africanos donde se celebra el Día del Niño Africano, y se rinde tributo a los jóvenes estudiantes que murieron en las manifestaciones de Johannesburgo en 1976, y que tuvieron la valentía de marchar para lograr cambios en la educación. Today is a special day because we celebrate the Children’s day in Venezuela. A day to pay homage to the little humans, who bring joy to families. The origin of this day worldwide dates back to 1954 when the Universal Children's day was first established. On November 20th, 1959, the United Nations General Assembly adopted the Declaration of the Rights of the Children, and on that same day in1989, the Convention on the Rights of the Children was also adopted.This is why the UN celebrates this day on November 20th, however, it encouraged countries to choose a date according to their own history and traditions. ![niña.jpg](https://files.peakd.com/file/peakd-hive/lacrucita/AeaqotfD-niC3B1a.jpg) _{Photo by Eye for Ebony on Unsplash} Each country celebrates Children's day in different ways and dates. In Venezuela, this day is celebrated on the third Sunday of July. On that day many activities and public events are held. At home, parents take children out to do fun things and give them presents. Many countries have this same tradition, but others differ in some aspects. For example, in China, Children's day is a holiday, so kids under 14 can stay at home to celebrate. Even some parents also have this day off, so they can go out with their children to the park, movies, theaters, and most of the tickets are free. Some stores make offers or discounts in toys. China is known for having a strict education system, so the fact giving this day off means they highlight the importance of this day. In Japan, the children’s day was only meant for male children, but nowadays girls celebrate it as well. They hold festivals and cultural activities. But actually, the origin of this day is the commemoration of the birth of Prime Minister Nehru, who loved children and was called “Uncle Nehru” by them. After his death, Indian celebrate Children's Day on November 14th. In other countries, this commemoration is bit more significant, as in the African countries where they celebrate the Day of the African Child, and pay tribute to the young students who died in demonstrations in Johannesburg In 1976, and were brave enough to struggle to change the education system. African countries as well as other low income countries, have fundraisers to benefit the children in need who receive food, cloth and toys that day.
