Hi friends of Hive and my Hive Open Mic family, I'm Fernando Benedetti from @fernanblog and this week we come with a very cool theme, it's "Local Tradition", proposed by our dear and talented @nellynohemi, who was selected as Spotlight Artist a few weeks ago.

When we talk about traditions many things come to mind, from religious traditions, to those that are represented through music as a cultural expression. As you all know I am Venezuelan, but I currently live in Colombia and I am already Colombian, so I had to choose a song that reflected the beauty of this second home; among so many classics, immediately came to mind one that is not exactly from the region where I am, but has become a national classic that can be heard at parties and even in major musical events, I speak of "La Gota Fría" original of the great composer Emiliano Zuleta and popularized by the talented and world-renowned Carlos Vives.

This song is a vallenato that narrates the rivalry between two accordionists, the creator of the song, Emiliano Zuleta and Lorenzo Morales, two incredible exponents of the genre in the 1930s. It is very common in the Colombian coast this kind of situations between vallenato musicians, obviously in a very healthy and professional way, in fact, in those lands is celebrated annually the "Festival Vallenato" or "Festival de la Leyenda Vallenata" a concert that gathers the best emerging artists for several days and from where the so-called "King of Kings" comes out.

It is with great pride for my descendants that I bring you this iconic song of the Colombian culture that has been interpreted by numerous artists of this country in different genres.

Hola amigos de Hive y de mi familia Hive Open Mic, soy Fernando Benedetti de @fernanblog y esta semana venimos con una temática muy genial, se trata de “Tradición Local”, propuesta por nuestra querida y talentosa @nellynohemi, quien fue seleccionada como Spotlight Artist hace unas semanas atrás.

Cuando hablamos de tradiciones muchas cosas vienen a la mente, desde tradiciones religiosas, hasta aquellas que se representan mediante la música como expresión cultural. Como todos saben yo soy venezolano, pero actualmente vivo en Colombia y ya soy colombiano, por lo que me tocó elegir una canción que reflejara lo bonito de este 2do hogar; de entre tantos clásicos, inmediatamente me vino uno a la mente que no es precisamente de la región en donde estoy, pero se ha convertido en un clásico nacional que se puede escuchar en fiestas y hasta en grandes eventos musicales, les hablo de “La Gota Fría” original del gran compositor Emiliano Zuleta y popularizada por el talentoso y reconocido mundialmente Carlos Vives.

Esta canción es un vallenato que narra la rivalidad entre dos acordeonistas, el creador de la misma, Emiliano Zuleta y Lorenzo Morales, dos exponentes increíbles del género en la década de 1930. Es muy común en la costa colombiana este tipo de situaciones entre músicos vallenatos, obviamente de forma muy sana y profesional, de hecho, en esas tierras se celebra anualmente el “Festival Vallenato” o “Festival de la Leyenda Vallenata” un concierto que reúne a los mejores artistas emergentes durante varios días y de donde sale el llamado “Rey de Reyes”.

Con mucho orgullo por mi descendencia les traigo esta canción ícono de la cultura colombiana y que ha sido interpretada por numerosos artistas de este país en distintos géneros.
